Got one of their brilliant aprons when I finally met them at "Best of British" recently. Saw the jeans, they looked good. If was wasn't already breaking 3 new pairs of selvage jeans in (I'm a sucker for a bargain), I'd have bought a pair.
BTW, Bates also sell hat boxes. They ship em and it always surprises me they get thro' the mail Ok, but the Bates guys say one of them specialises in packing them securely ! Don't know about to Oz though.
Sometimes charity/thrift stores sell new hat boxes, sturdy but gaudy though.Never checked...
Albam selvage jeans are made in Leicester (UK) from Japanese woven denim http://www.albamclothing.com/denim.htm . On the way back from Son of a Stag yesterday after getting some great deadstock 40's Henleys and another great chainstitched hem, I dropped into the Spitalfields Albam Store to see...
Tried 'em on in American Classics and although they come up large they didn't have my size. Not as hefty as I feared, but a substantial pair of jeans. After the fiasco with ASOS sending some of us bog-standard 101Zs when we hoped to get cheap 23 oz 101z's. I'll probably use my refund (lots of...
Glad you had a good tea :)
BTW, back in the day the sister hotel, the Regent Palace Hotel (now closed) had a bar (Bobby's Bar) with a reputation for a) very upmarket service and prices and b) the priciest ladies in the area. It was a convenient Hotel to stop over in, but I never felt inclined...
Or, of course, there's Bar Italia in Frith St, Soho (http://www.baritaliasoho.co.uk/) . Squeeze in at a table outside and see the tribes of Soho glide past ;) . Just take a (very good) espresso and Panini and you could be back in the 50/60's. It was too far from my office in Regent St to get...
Yes, meant to mention the small, but very good, tea room at Liberty's. Somewhere else that serves great tasting tea properly, rather than the blended dregs of cheap teas wrapped in tissue paper that are ubiquitous in the UK. But, each to his own :)
Fortnum's is a good place for tea. Better IMO than the Ritz etc. Sure, it can be a tourist trap, but it sells the excellent tea and coffee that it serves inb the restaurants. We were lucky enough to call in on the day they opened the new Ice Cream Parlour - I often use it for informal meetings...
My GLW (Good Lady Wife), an experienced old-school typist AND a latter-day electronic document security supremo, assures me that it is quite feasible to read a new ribbon (and they often were read!)
Got a FB chat going with a chirpy Asos rep. get the feeling they are getting their ducks in a row before answering queries on these phantom, mis-advertised , 23 oz 101's. We'll see if they actually have any real 23 oz (I got the right Art No for them)
Yes, Cinch (LVC) have their sale. By luck...
Mine just arrived. According to the Art number they are:
• Style: 101 Z - Regular fit
•Color: Dry Indigo
•13. 3/4oz Selvage denim
Yes, it has the little box in the pocket. These seem to sell for about £130. Also, they seem true_to-size as opposed to the oversized 23oz.
I note that somewhere...
Sounds like someone at Assos c**cked up the product description and they are now trying to avoid a misleading advertising claim. Doubt that a big outfit would deliberately try to flog a few pairs of Jeans for pennies extra profit. If this is true, betya someone at Assos will get their behinds...
