How Do You Store Your Cap Collection?

Perhaps I simply missed it somewhere else in the lounge, but as my collection of new and vintage caps grows, my issue of how to store them is becoming a little bit serious. Here in Sydney we can have some seasonal trouble with wool-eating moths, so hanging them on a wall is a no-no, and I don't have ready access to a cedar cupboard.

Living in a city means that space is at a premium, so whatever ingenious solution I come up with will have to be highly ergonomic...

Regardless of the moth issue, which isn't emergency-grade, how can one safely and securely store a few dozen beautiful flat caps/newsboy caps, etc? Hat jacks cost around $50 each in Australia, so it's not economical to fill each cap with one.

Love to hear how my fellow cap-o-philes tackle this subject!

My smaller caps go inside this nice little cap bag, from Bates (a London hatter) which they give you when you buy a cap. It fits about four or five caps.

Thanks, TwoTypes and RegentSt1965 - I emailed them for info, though I don't know if they sell just the bags. We'll see.

I've been keeping a stack of caps in a large shoe bag, but it does kind of wrinkle them some - those bags would be an improvement to keep them from folding over.

I'd love to hear what Johnny Cordova or Barry Simonds might suggest as well, as these larger caps really need something...

I happen to have quite a few hat boxes around - I keep a couple for caps. I think a dozen or so fit easily in each (sans the insert, of course). Top hat boxes are usually smaller and might be more efficient, but I have top hats in these.

I just hang mine on hooks. In my experience moths don't like the light, I've only had things in drawers and wardrobes eaten.

I have a Real Deal Brazil hat, and discovered the somewhat low crown is just the right shape for me to stack my caps onto. But I only have four caps, so it might not be a practical solution for everyone. Also, we don't have moth problems in this part of southern California.

BTW, Bates also sell hat boxes. They ship em and it always surprises me they get thro' the mail Ok, but the Bates guys say one of them specialises in packing them securely ! Don't know about to Oz though.
Sometimes charity/thrift stores sell new hat boxes, sturdy but gaudy though.Never checked it out when we lived in Oz.
