I can wear my 4 inch brim fedora (Art Fawcett custom hat) in the 1957 GMC truck, 1955 Bel Air, 1958 Dynamic 88, 1957 Bel Air, 1975 Cad El Dorado, and 1973 Mach 1. I can wear any style fedora or lady vintange hats no problem since I'm on 5' 5-1/2".

Free association causes people to draw strange conclusions of who I am due to the fedora. I get the Indy comment from my Dad, and several other people. A stranger once told me that I looked like a gumshoe with my fedora and trench. The comments vary. I am normally told that I look good...
Your wife might have had other things on her mind. Being a wife of JP, I would never have thought of smashing any of JP's hats. I understand how much the fedoras cost. The cost and wait of getting the hat back after it has been cleaned and reblocked.

I have worn either vintage ladies' hats or fedoras, and men fedoras. I have vintage fedoras: Borsalinos, Stetson, Dobbs, Cavanaugh, Mallory, Knox, etc.. I have over 50 hats. From my men's vintage collection, I prefer the hats from the 1930s-early 1950s. I have a custom hat from Art Fawcett...
Did you find a family member that fit it? :) JP stretched a 1940s Borsalino US size 6-7/8 (bought from Art Fawcett), and resized it to fit me (size 7-1/4). The resizing was not too extreme. He did not have to replace the sweatband or liner in my case. Good thing since Art has not set up his...
A few months ago, I bought an early 1950s black silk faille matching dress and jacket for $25 but it cost me almost $30 to Dry Clean. Talk about being taken to the cleaners. ;) A total of $55.00 was still a steal. :) Care to share your experiences?

Kudos, on your good fortune. Lady Fortune really did smile on you. Usually, clothing for you guys cost a lot more due to scarcity, and demand. Don’t let know JP know where you got those or you might get competition. It is a good idea to Dry Clean vintage/or N.O.S. items in case...
The kit went for $284. Ouch! It really isn't so bad when I think of it. ;)
I paid under $125 for my 1940s Ladies Palm Beach from Goodall, and over a $100 for my 1940s Spectators pumps, and the tally does not include the cost of accessories (hat, purse, etc.).

Johnnysan,
The Style Craft's men's fedora has a very unique flair. The ribbon, ribbon covered buckle, and bound edge are original. I was very fortunate to find one so unique, and well preserved for its age. This style would probably be expensive for today's hat manufacturers to duplicate...
Modern Borsalinos are manufactured with Australian Wild Rabbit, Hare, and Rabbit. I held a modern Borsalino and had a good laugh. The quality of the felt was not very good, nor was it dense. I am biased since I own vintage Borsalino fedoras.

My hat is a Style Craft from Stromberg's in Trinidad, Colorado (1940s-1950s), handmade felt, lightweight dense fibers and 100% fur felt. I bought it vintage and had Art Fawcett replace the sweatband, clean and reblocked it.

I didn't recognize it. Is that hat an original from the 1940s?. It is similar to another hat I have. It doesn't hurt to guess. :p Have you seen this one? Do you know what other hat brands that have the buckle on the ribbon?

I didn’t think that it would be completely true to time period for a modern made film. The makeup for the actors/actress wasn’t that great either. I remember watching the movie in my teens with my Mom a few years before she died.

Has anyone seen this movie "Once Upon a Time in America"? The movie was set in the 1920s, 1933, and 1960s (depends on which 3 versions you saw). Does anyone know if the hats, color/clothing styles were accurate for 1920s and 1930s?

Lady Powers
I got this from ebBay. The brand name of the hat is Hat by Eddi, The Bon Marche. The color is dark brown, medium weight, beaver felt, dense fibers, and soft.

Here I am. Good thing that I lost 23 lbs. and kept it off before I bought the gab 1940s suit on eBay. Good thing it went by measurements and not sizes. ;) I'm not happy with the picture. My shoes which I already posted in the powder room are 1940s vintage. Dark brown beaver felt hat...
