Hmm. You may have a valid point. I can show off the pieces I do have, and the sections that are complete. I'll see about taking a camera to the office soon.
The office is getting there...I loathe posting pics before it's all perfect. My office chair is modern, but looks slightly vintage and I'm wanting to replace it soon. Going for some more vintage office supplies soon, need to add artwork and then reduce the number of framed items and finish my...
Being in the Air Force, that guy looks a little young to be a Master Sergeant. Also, he apparently has quite a few specialties! LOL...the dead giveaway (other than the insane amount of ribbons, some of which he couldn't possibly have earned) is the terrible placement of items on the uniform...
Actually, great update! Found a pair of 60's Gunlocke chairs for $45, along with finding a second hand store that sells 50's-60's furniture for whatever they can get. Walked out with three chairs (including a vintage chrome and naugahyde 50's chair) for $55. Things are looking up! Now to finish...
I don't think many kids "finish off an apartment with a two-room Roebuck sale" anymore. But when my wife and I married, we had a television set, a mattress, and some kitchen utensils to eat off paper plates. Over time, we furnished a lovely apartment, mostly by visiting the "scratch and dent...
Wow...that article was very enlightening. They ought to publish it in pamphlets and distribute it all over the US. We need a dose of common sense - and a freedom from "ever increasing" want. How often I give away car loads of stuff to charities and clothes to friends because "I don't want it any...
Just poked my head in to see what this was all about - clearly not for me, but is there a requirement that to post in this thread you be heart stoppingly gorgeous? Cause judging by avatars and pics, you girls have it covered!
I'm out in a small town where anything from the 60s would go for a song - the trouble is finding it! There's four steelcase chairs sitting outside a rec center in town that I stare at every time I drive by - some day I want to find the owner and offer him cash for them. They literally sit...
So I've been trying to design my office to a Mad Men theme as much as possible (still can't ditch the computer, too valuable!). My search for vintage stuff for the 60's era desk is tough! I'm painting my own modern art, so that's made easier, but finding vintage office supplies is not going so...
Just had my birthday yesterday, and was reflecting on this.
I want to change others' lives as they changed mine.
Other than that, I have everything I wanted, and I'm 33. But listen carefully:
Couldn't stand being told what to do and when to be somewhere, now I have a job that I set the hours...
Ralph Lauren just introduced a "GI Fit" in his khakis - not super authentic, but easily found and affordable. On sale they run $45 or so, full price is around $75.
There's Buzz Rickson in Japan, but you're looking at exactly the same price. The Aldens will be expensive because they're limited, they're Aldens and they're a WWII item (in a way). $440 is exactly what they can expect to get for them too.
Several years ago Scotrace found a deal on some Bates...
I was born in '78, so for something vintage to be gone in my lifetime has to be very recent. That said (and my number one pet peeve)...
Stamp vending machines at the grocers. My mother and grandmother used these constantly, and whenever I needed to mail something it was understood you went to...
I should point out mine is a one piece back, two piece sleeve as well, but minus the "Flying Tiger" moniker. The zip is a Talon - like the A-2's of old. Not sure if it was a replacement or original to the jacket - but it seems very solid.
Agreed. You'll get better quality and price on ebay. I got mine (US made, 30 years old) for $40 shipped in August from a guy in Florida! My favorite jacket - the only signs of wear and tear are the falling apart label inside. Everyone else thinks it's new. Plus, sized as a 40, it's nice and...
Don't go there on the US Authentics. They're decent jackets at a discount (I got one for $129), but there is nowhere near the detail and feel of any other jacket maker. Eastman for sure, Buzz Rickson if you win the lottery.
I have to say, for the 2-3 years they've been around, they consistently sell me more stuff than any other line. I love their madras, their shorts, especially the khakis. I know it's early, but I've GOT to find that jacket from last year if it hits eBay!
I suppose I wish she were still here, so that she could write the blog with me. Ultimately it needs to come down to a book, really - "Emily Post with Feelings". Not just another etiquette book, but one that discusses what care and appropriateness is called for among loved ones and friends.
I...
Well, if that picture is you, I don't feel in danger of stabbing.
I almost wonder if there's a book in me somewhere - the Resurrection of Class: how to care for others more than oneself, and contribute to society.
Writing this has been cathartic, I've been living with these thoughts for...
