I like the looks of the the Red Wing Gentleman's Traveler/Beckman/9011. (Have only seen it on the web.)
I already have the Wolverine 1000-Mile Boot. Is it much different, other than the sole?
Does the "Black Cherry" 9011 look very red? The picture on the Red Wing site makes it look more...
Doctor Strange,
I think that's good advice. I'll just wait until it ever fails before replacing the zipper.
By the way, it was an older post of yours' that lead me to the Schotts on clearance at US Wings (thanks!). It was $79.95 + $15 shipping. Not a bad price. Black is the only color they...
I don't know who is the current supplier of N-3Bs to the Air Force (Alpha?), but do the parkas have plastic zippers?
I just bought one of the Schott parkas on closeout from US Wings and it has a plastic zipper. I was disappointed to find it wasn't metal.
Am I going to have problems with...
I have a couple of leather belts that have lightened a good deal around the belt holes that are always used. What is the best way to "refinish" a belt? I don't suppose you would use shoe polish?
Lexol? Red Wing boot oil?
Thanks for any advice.
I'm looking for some boots to wear in the rain.
A type I'm considering are similar to what I've seen as "Bean Boots":
I also think these look good, but don't know if they are any good. Sorels:
I also like these. L.L. Bean Bison Boots:
Any feedback on any of these?
I would...
I'm one that doesn't like marking soles. I have a couple pairs of Frye's that mark like crazy. I put them on in my house and feel like I have to walk on eggshells on the way to the door.
What is the difference in the Red Wing 968 and the 2268? Are they as well made as the 2268s? Are the soles non-marking?
Red Wing 968 (although I don't care for the large medallion on the sides)
Lots of great info in this thread...
Marineabilly - are all Red Wing 2268s steel toe? Is there a non-steel toe version of this boot?
By the way, your Chippewas on the left in your photo. About how old are they? Have you had any problems with buckles breaking on Chippewas?
Thanks again.
Why in the world does Red Wing not sell the 2268 boots in the US? They look like the classic example of Engineer boots. All they sell are some low-profile-heel versions on their "Lifestyle" web site under a "Heritage" line (the 2990, 2991 and 2992) and a less expensive lug soled Engineer boot...
Years ago, I had a black A-2 "style" jacket from another manufacturer. Over time, the black color took on a very faint greenish hue. It was almost imperceptible, but it started looking like a dark, dark green-black.
Do the black Schott 184SMs do this?
Thanks again.
Johnny,
Can you tell me the name of some authorized resellers? The only ones I could turn up via a Google search were about the same price as Schott.
Thanks for the good info.
Best.
Would love to see pictures of one. Am kinda thinking about getting one in black, but don't know how out of the ordinary this would look.
Has anyone seen on in person? How did it look?
