Actually there was one on ebay very recently that looked just like that. It was priced at 100 GBP and didnt sell. I'll look around and see if I can find it again.
So am I to understand that, according to this policy of yours, you wouldnt wear any of the extremely fine jackets made by Eastman or Aero, et al simply because they were not made in the USA? If so, your just unnessessarily limiting your pool of potential jackets. Also, any ANJ-3 (or A-2, or B-3...
Hey Mike1973, I know you did a great job of putting a sidcot suit collar on your BSA Irvin, but if your still interested in getting an irvin collar theres one up right now on ebay. Item no. 120269777486
I've had really good results with a spray bottle of febreeze. Last year I had an eastman B-3 that REEKED of stale cigarette smoke. Two days and 3 or 4 heavy applications later it smelled great, even with my nose pressed right up against the shearling.
from what I've heard pigskin is not a very high quality leather. Seeing as how a large amount of "mall" jackets are made from pigskin, I tend to agree with that sentiment.
I think the sizing varies throughout the manufacturers. The last G-1 I had, a wreck of a D-series Martin Lane sz 42, was tight on me. Yet this Star 42 fits nicely, in fact its 22 inches across the chest, seems a bit bigger than a "true" 42. Myself, I have a 39-40 inch chest and size 42 jackets...
Im lazy, copying this right from my VLJ post.
The G-1 i picked up a couple weeks ago arrived today, and I'm thrilled with it. I was lucky enough to pick it up for a very nice 125.00 on a BIN. It fits perfectly everywhere, except in that its a touch short. But, being tall you have to make a...
Well, I'm 21 and I have just fallen in love with gin as of very recently and have been consuming vast quantities of gin and tonics. I finished off two 750ml bottles of Gilbeys in a week, so I bought a 1.75 litre bottle of same, hopefully it lasts a bit longer.:D
Im a bartender myself and I can...
Well I dont know about you, but I've been unable to access VLJ for the entire day, which is distressing considering I usually dont go more than a half hour at home without checking up on the latest jacket talk.
I was never into the G-1 too much to begin with but now I'm hooked on it. I just bought a 1969 Star Sportswear with a gorgeous mouton collar for 125.00.
Should arrive any day now. These few pics have been tiding me over until it arrives.
I've actually been through three WPG Irvins (not by through any quality issues though, I was simply picky about sizing.) Each was well made, and I never had any problems with the zips on the first two ( the second I wore for quite a while) My current jackets main zip is coming apart at the...
Almost without a doubt those look to be Flash Fastener zips. I used to have a couple of those with the pattern papers and wax stamps but I sold them off, and they also had a blue coloured tape. Im not sure how useful these would be for a flying jacket, the tape is the right colour but if it is...
Im strongly considering a horsehide russet a-2 from u.s authentic. Im on a pretty strict budget so this is the best buy for the money in my opinion. Anyways, Im agonizing about the sizing issue. I really want to get it right on the first time and not spend extra cash sending jackets back and...
Same here. I went through our cold Canadian winter just fine in my Irvin, and on really cold days I just threw on my eastman rollneck which reaches another 3-4 inches past the bottom of the jacket. It looks great and it keeps me warm. Granted, my feet are cold but that just means I need a pair...
I had this pair of 1940 pattern boots on ebay but a fellow ebay member graciously sent me some information about the previous owner. They belonged to a Pilot Officer Malcolm James Yarwood, a Navigator in the Royal New Zealand Air Force who was posted to 190 (RAF) Squadron. He was killed in...
For durability, I think it depends of the type of sheepskin used (just look at how well British sheepskin Irvins have stood up compared to American sheepskin B-3s.) There are Irvins out there that have been worn, and worn hard, for 60-70 years they are still going strong, if properly taken care...
******* Paddy, you must wear those things 24/7. They look amazing. Just like I hope to have mine eventually look (when I buy them) sans some of the mud of course.
