Ah yes! (I am fascinated with this murder, being a big Mabel Normand fan) Have you seen Bruce Long's Taylorology newsletter...~80 issues devoted to all angles of this story? If not, must-read: almost all the issues are available on his website:

I can't imagine your voice being annoying! :) Now, I'm annoying!
(...stuffy Minnie Mouse monotone with spells of excited mumbling, genus Californian.) Any and all donations towards elecution lessons are gratefully accepted.
Now Tony, "cleaning" is a ritual performed by gentlemen who want to make a good impression on ladies and thus no longer be bachelors. ;)
I also spend a few minutes each day "sprucing up" and do the laundry on a weekday; weekends do the heavy scouring/mopping/vacuuming. Like Rosie, I bleach...
How timely! Yesterday I met an Italian friend at the store and forgot she does the dreaded "double cheek kiss" move...after peck #1 I started to move away, interrupted her trajectory to my right cheek, and got bopped in the nose. A little too much "personal space invasion" for this stuffy...

:eusa_clap Is that the 16 All-Time Lowes one? A big fave chez Magneto! (says the person with a "vintage" saucer-size "Pure Pop for Now People" button on her old jacket).
They are horribly messy! :( As you walk in the door from Market St. the powders are in the very leftmost aisle, on the righthand side of the aisle, near nail items and other odd boodle.
(That R-A also carries a few makeup lines for darker-complected women--I forget the name, but the lipsticks...
Hee hee...great minds think alike...and it certainly makes it easy to try out new inks! (says the person with more bottles of ink than pens). :eusa_doh:
Low end: there's an "old style" drugstore brand called "Pssst" (seriously) in a spray can; high-end: Bumble and Bumble makes one (although I think I read it was discontinued) Actually, the best thing (and cheapest) to use is cornstarch and a little baby powder/talc for scent... (which is...
Hurray, P.G. Wodehouse! :eusa_clap
(Quote du jour: "The kind of person who thinks [Thomas Mann] a great writer and Wodehouse not a great writer is precisely the kind of person who would believe that professional credentials are necessary to make such
judgments." --Roger Ebert)

Hi decodoll--the Rite-Aid near Market and Fourth St. in SF has the colored Coty powders (I just bought the "Naturally Neutral" ('Light/Medium Neutral Tone') a week or two ago there). I don't know if they had the full line, but there were about 5/6 different shades available.
Fortunately all the "trend predictors" are unanimous that higher waists (and straight legs not flared) are coming back soon; the super-high-end priced jeans (oxymoron though that is!) coming out now have a much higher rise and its only a matter of time before that filters down to mass market...
That is the cutest picture! :)
I have been looking for a vintage robe myself since I need one but like you Daisy, I would be terrified of messing it up due to my fondness for early morning coffee drinking...I think I will take my own advice and hit Chinatown soon...
Hi carebear,
I think wool ties are de facto "sporty" and informal, right? Maybe off-white shirt, brown wool pants, suede shoes or brogues? I don't think khaki would look too bad at all (unless it's the almost-white khaki). Do you have a brown corduroy jacket or pants? Those could work too.
Hats alert! Hats alert!
Dear women of the SF Bay Area, the "Seconds to Go" resale shop in snooty Pacific Heights must have just had some well-hatted dowager die on them. I stopped in 5 minutes before closing time today and there were many 40s/50s hats from long-departed SF stores such as The...
