Graham, at Optimo, has such an eye for hat ribbons, you would be amazed! A friend of mine, former posterr, has three montecristis with the most amazing trims. Graham goes all over the world in search of the best, most unique, and sometimes most eccentric selection of ribbons you have ever seen...
Well...
I went and visited a dear friend tonight and I showed him new Montecristi. He proudly said the only thing that was missing was a Cuban cigar.
We went to his jacuzzi (now before Panamabob has a heart attack, I did not soak the hat in the Jacuzzi.)
And he got the sauna ready... a...
Well I recently aquired a great great suit, and I am waiting to take good pics of it, so the hat will be in those. I am definitely hooked and I want one from Panamabob now. I've been lurking around seeing all of the Montecristi posts, I got this one because it was only $25 used, a guy was...
For starters look at my avatar. That used to be my regular pipe until I found a short stem straight estate pipe at an antique store. Before I ever had any interest in smoking cigars or pipes I used to collect them because I liked the smell very much... then I sold them all... then I started...
I bought a Montecristi from ebay. It arrived.
Here is the sad part
It just arrived in a square box... well it was square, unfortunately the other half of the box has been... flattened to a pancake. Naturally I was alarmed so I quickly opened the box and found the contents inside...
This is the only thread that I have ever started that has lead me to the answer I desired. Thanks everyone. Keep it up...
I'm still storing them in a cedar chest, but I really like Zohar's approach, to line my existing closet with cedar. That's genius and I think I'm going to do it.
Look at my hat in my profile pic. That is a late 30s Borsalino that reblocked and the brim cut to make a Bogey, in my opinion it's a very close Maltese Falcon hat.
That's a very well tailored suit for the 50s. Most double breasted suits I find with 49 union tags are on the baggy side. Beautiful suit Shamus, but I agree, french cuffs are the way to go.
Linen suit bags. I have been considering that. I have a lot of modern clothes too, and it got far too crowded for my suits in there.
Now that is one of the big reasons I posted here. I don't know about you folks, but it does my heart good to open my closet and see a row of vintage suits in...
I've got a couple grey vintage fedoras in that size. They have a few moth holes and could use a cleaning. They're from the forties. Good size crown and brim, lots of sun space. Same as Biltmore Bob, just charge ya for the shipping. PM me if you want.
So...
I'm interested to know where your suits sleep at night? I used to keep them in my regular closet until I realized that I had a perfect bed-height cedar chest from the late 30's given to me by my grandmother. (I have only had it for five years and it finally dawned on me that I could...
Oh no. It's the trousers too, but alas it's too small for you and it really isn't my thing. Lauren and I may talk about it for her museum though.
But... I talked to the guy that's selling it and he says they have a lot more where that came from that they haven't advertised yet and he's...
The safest thing to do is buy, or rent a high megapixel (5 or more) digital camera. Place a smooth wood cutting board inside the shirt and the lay the shirt flat on the cutting board... gently to protect the image.
Make sure there are no wrinkles,
Also set your exposure so it doesn't blow...
Root that suit costs a lot. Now... if I were to buy it and... let's say it fit you... Would you be interested in trading a certain suit that sits in a certain cedar chest in a certain room in a certain area of Monrovia, California?
I had a wrinkle free shirt a year ago. That shirt was virtually indestructable. I grew out of it so decided to make some tests (I was considering making a dressier version of the Indy shirt in darker colors) and there was nothing I could do to make that shirt wrinkle. I wadded it up in a ball...
Let's get back on track. I don't have any new pics of my suits but check this out...
Now that is a rare piece. She's asking $375 for it. Too rich for my blood. Beautiful piece though.
