Good eye Dan. I'll let Root tell you about the shoes but... those are his other pair I lust after. Amazing find especially in a size 12! Unheard of!
I will post pics of the vest stich and thanks for the complements.
Marc posted that it is a "Donegal weave." He saw the suit in person on...
Great thread Rob. Glad you started it. It's funny how people think everything had a match when it was made. It just isn't true!
Jose was telling me about those trousers. I need a charcoal or black pair to go with my collegiate ensamble I'm building.

P.S. I am so glad I followed...
at Mr. Deckard's request
(Photo removed due to the strange coincidence that both Dan and Lauren posted it simultaneously)
This is an early 30's tweed three piece that I picked up at the vintage expo a couple days ago for $125. It's made by Marshall, Field & Co. This suit is a tailor's opus.
Yeah I thought that was the date as well but there's a very faint "long" after it. So it's a "39 long" however there are number 193 printed with an extremely faint "2" and my late twenties/early thirties double breasted shares the lapel cut so... regardless it's thirties and I love it.
Let me...
Mr. Deckard,
Is that a vintage tie you're wearing? Have I seen that one in person? oh and Rob... those shoes in your pic are incredible... it's times like these when (since we're the same size) it's a good thing that you live two hours away and gas is expensive, but keep one eye open tonight. :p
It's a loyalty thing. Those were the suits that got me through my young years of loving the "vintage look" but it is I that stand corrected because talking to Matt Deckard about these he mentioned that in the mid nineties the costume houses started "modifying" suits like the Cardins for period...
Actually Marc could tell you more about it but I'll do my best.
It was made for Marshall, Field & Co. which, I found out thanks to Marc, was one of the most prestigious department stores of the thirties. There are minor details about this suit that I absolutely love: The four pocket vest has...
I found a couple three piece single breasted Cardins without vents at costume houses, I've even seen a belt back with skeleton lining.
They definitely beat giving $1,000 to a tailor that may, or may not, know what he is doing.
Regards,
Dan
Ah... Yes I'm quite a fan of the wide stripe... if they're done right. The problem is I have terrible memories of seventies polyester suits donning the wide stripe.
I have one widestripe pattern on a suit that is all solid brown, despite the lack of contrast, you can tell there are stripes...
Yeah but these foreign Cardin suits, never sold in America, these things are really close. They were made specifically for the European market. Now you won't find them with saddlebag pockets or half belts but... they are still the closest "modern" suit I have seen.
Marc you should post pics of the green suit we traded. My camera wouldn't do it justice but you guys are great at posting the true colors.
By the way it was such a pleasure meeting the two of you. Next time we are in the area, if you guys aren't too busy, we'd love to have lunch or dinner...
Bwahahahahahahahah.
Oh and I am proud to say that I am wearing 98% vintage. I found the 30's shirt adn three piece double breasted suit at that show just two days ago. The tie is a frayed edge thirties tie and the shoes are 40's Florshiem
I would post your own thread that people can specifically see what you're looking for.
General attire is the perfect section.
oh yeah and...
