" a smartly dressed woman walked up to me and said " You sir look absolutely Dashing"..... we chatted for a few moments and off she went..... "
Both you and she impress me beyond all belief; TIMING is EVERYTHING!
LOL.

" the story about all of the men throwing their straw hats in the air at Fountain Square in anticipation of felt hat season."
Frunobulax.
Unless it was their oldest hat and ready to be thrown into the trash, I cannot envision any sane man doing that!

"Can't find anything on the manufacturer. Anyone heard of them?"
John Galt.
I would try internetarchive.org and inquire of a City Directory of whichever city looked for.
These are not telephone books.
Eg: For Toronto, Canada, this, where I live and is one of my Specialties, City of Toronto...
"My thought here was that the bucket lid could be pierced to provide a barrier between the drill and the aerosolized naptha."
John Galt.
You may laugh at what I'm going to write, but SUPRISE!
The Aerosol from the hat, or whatever, that would be within the Confined Space of The Container would...
" Maybe I'll put it on my power drill, and spin the hats in a bucket. "
John Galt
The "arc splash" from a power drill will surely allow you to become known as "The Late John Galt",
rather than "John Galt was late". When dealing with Gasoline (Naptha)/Lacquer, etc, use only
explosion-proof...
"I shudder the thought."

It's OK, after the Hipster Fashion dies, Style will remain.
(How many Fashion Houses has PRADA killed-off, quality wise?)

It could be that Glen does not understand hats and/or their construction?
As for what Tonyb wrote, after having been in Goorin Brothers' Toronto store, none were impressive and The Service, non existent.

I always respected George, both on and off of the stage, he being a Gentleman and as I can relate,
as were most of my clients; note the word "most".
LOL
We lost a good man.

"If we look at most etiquette too closely it doesn't make much sense."
Frunobulax.
Actually, it does, as the so-called Proper Behaviour Rules are nothing more than to allow a
smooth, no surprises, flow of social interaction; it's not known as Polite Company, for no reason.
After having written...
" "Certainly", I said with a grin, having an idea of the way this was going
but deciding to ham it up for all I was worth, "What would you like to know?". "
B1ggles.
"Why would you think you'd be in the right by smugly refusing when asked? You're doubling down on the "it's all about me"...
"You guys are too funny."
Lotsahats.
"Well," she said, "we don't request that people remove their hats...." "Good", I interjected quickly, "as that would be unusual". Not too flustered, she continued, "...but we do like to just remind them that they are wearing them".
B1ggles.
She was being...
" as I have studied the advice on here on 'hatiquette' and was only walking round, not sitting, I kept it on my head."
B1ggles.
More study required.

"Hope to be there next Sunday! "
Two Types.
ANCHORS AWEIGH!
My friends and I are usual denizens of the Burger King (yes, Burger King!) for a good breakfast starting a 9:00 am until about 10: 30 - 11:00 am, after which,
we repair to The Market for catch-as-catch-can buy, however, a better...
"When one of the very finest sells for the kind of price journalists like to report, the artists who created that hat receive 40%."
Brent Black.
. . . and if the "price journalists like to report" isn't reported . . .
Just asking.

"WOW!! That was a great article "
navarre.
As below:
http://www.theshoesnobblog.com/2013/06/bookbinder-leather-dont-be-fooled.html
After having read that article, it certainly opend my eyes!
The problem with many items or workmanship is not what is seen or known at the time of...
I equate glued-in liners with the construction of shoes using "Bookbinder Leather"; "Corrected Grain Leather"; "Polished Leather"; et al.
(Cheap, but not Cheerful.)

Another reason not to like B . . .

"You might be the only one left."
mayserwegener.
Also Leon Drexler, but would think that quite a number of other custom hatters would as well.
