I was just sent this link today even though it appears it has been around for some time.
There are some very interesting photos of life in 1939-1940 or so with some of them reminding me that we have become very soft over the years.

All of us who are fans of The Iowa Hawkeyes love to hear In Heaven There Is No Beer. It means another victory!

That's happened to me several times too. I've been able to help several people with stalled cars or flat tires in parking lots. Like you said, it doesn't seem like such a big thing but I always hope someone would stop and help my wife if she were in a situation like that.
I too love candy corn and am hopelessly addicted to the stuff this time of year. We always make up a mix that is 1/3 candy corn, 1/3 dry roasted peanuts and 1/3 plain M&Ms. Just seems like a perfect complement of flavors that mix well together. ...Time for another handful!
I love rye whiskey and am just finishing my second glass of Templeton Rye tonight. Very very smooth with a nice spice. They don't disclose a definite percentage of rye...only that it is "more than 90%". Highly recommended although it may be hard to find. Mainly an Iowa product with some...
Well I'm having it tonight instead of last night but I'll post anyway... ;)
Tonight I'm having Moscow Mules. Haven't had a Moscow Mule in a little while and it is a perfect drink for a warm sultry summer night. Very refreshing!!
I think Buffalo Trace is one of the best "value" whiskeys that I've run across. Excellent, smooth taste and goes down very nice. At $20-$22 per bottle here in Iowa, it's always in my liquor cabinet.
There are several good whiskeys out there and the choices are more plentiful today than ever before. I've tried and enjoyed many of the brands listed already including Knob Creek, Bulleit, and Buffalo Trace.
Believe it or not, we're pretty lucky here in Iowa because we now have Templeton Rye...
Joseph Mitchell - Former writer for The New Yorker magazine. I think he was with The New Yorker from the late 30s to the early 90s. He wrote a lot of stories about people he met in New York. Many of them were people that he met in the Bowery, in bars, nightclubs, etc. I usually recommend...
I am by no means a connoisseur of the various brands of gin. When drinking a martini I prefer Bombay Sapphire and I actually like the vermouth added. I say that because no matter where I go, I always hear people talking about "open the vermouth in the same room", etc, etc, etc. For a gin and...
Ah,,,Tomasso knows! The Big Green Egg is a ceramic smoker/grill. Cooks smoked meat low and slow, like the brisket I had on today for 16 hours at 250 degrees F. Then open the vents get it up to 600-700 and cook steak or use it as a wood fired pizza oven. Homemade pizza in 4 minutes!
My...
I like a ribeye cut to about an inch and a half thick. Before cooking, let it come up to room temperature, more or less. Then just rub with a little salt and fresh ground pepper. Put the cast iron grid on the Big Green Egg and get it up to about 600 degrees F. Put the steak on for about 2...
It looks like they are making some of the very early recordings available on a streaming basis.
