    Fedoras afield

Here's a few professional shots that were taken of myself and Cristen. We had these pictures taken by a photographer to use on our new upcoming website and for gig posters. Our music duo is called "Kismet" and we play all over the Chicagoland area as a hobby. Cristen and I have been involved in...

Sewing machine for sweatbands and linings for felt hats - Recommendation Needed

Here's the thread I started a while ago about vintage Singer sewing machines for sweatbands, etc. In this thread is some pretty good research about the machines and model numbers. Where to buy them is a mystery to me...

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

Frank, i'm not going to lie, I'm a bit insulted by this. I see no reason why I have to specify where I got this hat or who I got it from. Is it important? Its obviously a hat model that was procured before the official retail launch date, so there's only a couple possibilities if you think about...

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

I am very interested in this. Greg, does the brim loose its shape once steamed or is it floppy regardless of steaming or shaping with water? The brim on my hat will move in the wind just as vintage hat brims do, but once the wind stops blowing I can readjust the brim to my liking instantly...

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

The color is hard to describe, but i'm not getting the "blue" hues in the green felt. The color is very distinctly green with various shades coming out in different kind of lights. The copper ribbon tones down the green and makes it completely wearable with anything really. I have never worn any...

You Gentlemen will not be disappointed. I am not sure when these hats will be released, but they really are something special.

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

Thank you so much everyone for the extremely kind words about my review of this hat. I especially appreciate all of you vouching for my character and integrity. There were a couple faults with this hat that I noticed, but I basically mentioned everything in my review. No hat is perfect....even...

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

Thank You Very Much for the extremely kind words, Gentlemen. They really do mean very much to me. I am unsure how much this hat will cost. I suppose it will be up to the retailers. If I were to compare this felt to Fepsa's 100 beaver hat body, I would say the density, color saturation, shellac...

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

I have not compared it to the Royal Deluxe Quality felt, but I do know that this Excellent Quality felt is suppose to be far superior. I talked to Matt Deckard about this new Excellent Quality Felt and trust me when I say, this felt is the product of a lot of hard work and research at Stetson.

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

I honestly have no idea about pre-orders or what retailers will be carrying it. I would have to assume that it will be offered in all sizes up to Size 8 like the other Premier models.

2015 Stetson Excellent Quality GREEN THIN RIBBON (Preview & Review)

Thanks, Monte. I have handled a blue grass Akubra and honestly its like night and day between these two hats. The Akubra is a tried and true durable hat that will take a beating and keep on ticking. However, the Stetson is felted denser, finished finer, has better use of shellac, better trimming...

    Pre- 1940s Stetson dress hats.

Very true and very well stated, Alan. :yo: I sure wish Stetson date stamped more hats in those days. But at the end of the day....the early Stetsons, no matter what year they were manufactured....are really spectacular hats from a bygone era.

    Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

SPECTACULAR!! Feather Weight Nutria peaks my interest. How "light" is this hat by comparison to other "feather weight" hats in your collection, Alan? The felt appears to be substantial without being floppy or flimsy.

    Pre- 1940s Stetson dress hats.

I am really beginning to wonder if Velours/Long Hairs follow their own set of rules. It seems like we keep finding contradictions between the Lot Numbering system and sweatband stamps/trim features on early Stetson velours/longhairs. It seems like with regular felt hats of that era, they all...

    Pre- 1940s Stetson dress hats.

Aaron, Stetson won another medal in 1915. I believe this hat predates 1915 based on the Paris Expo 1900 stamp. Obviously its possible that they used the Paris Expo stamp longer than 1915, but its more than likely that your hat is pre-1920 at the youngest.
