When Miller first started gaining notoriety, I enjoyed the stuff he was doing. I felt it was a big departure . . . until I started digging deeper and discovering several other artists that had been employing similar techniques to better effect for many years.
If you've never see or read it...
I'll grant you that Frank Miller's work on Daredevil (in the early 80's) was quite a departure in comic storytelling at the time. My personal feeling is that he's not honed his narrative craft at all since then. He regurgitates a lot of genre material without really bringing anything unique to...
When you look at all these fictional characters and the you look at the sad pool of contemporary actors the disconnect becomes all the more clear.
IMO: The ideal type of talent to play The Spirit needs to be someone like a young James Garner.
Frank Miller's work lacks subtlety and there's more...
I believe the Clive Owen character in Sin City also wore Converse for some reason . . . I don't know what the "logic" is but to me it's quite distracting.
I hope Miller got a nice chunk of endorsement change.
A lot of these contemporary hats (and they are indeed hats) just don't strike me as very flattering. Depends on the wearer and what, if anything, they do to follow through with the rest of their ensemble.
But all things being equal, it's a very subjective call. My personal feeling: I'm just...

Very nice statue of mysterious origin. About 11 1/2 inches tall and in excess...
Oh, and here in Chicago you can occasionally find Pabst on tap. Not bad at all . . . much better than canned.
I also enjoy the occasional Erdinger and Dixie beer.
All the movies I mention have redeeming qualities here and there, mostly in the art/production design. Plenty of style but no real meat on the bone.
Take a film like Raiders . . . inspired by and drawing heavily from an established (pulp) genre but becoming an animal all it's own. It exceeded...
It's unfortunate that pretty much the entire Eisner/Spirit lexicon is being kicked to the curb . . . but I'm in no way surprised.
This movie, like the vast majority of main stream films, is a mass-consumption product aimed at the youth demographic. It's making ZERO effort to appeal to a...
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
I've been a hat lover my entire life and have a great appreciation for the culture fostered by this site.
That said, I'll be sure to post pics of my various hats in the coming days. I'm going through a bit of a cloth "newsie" period at the moment but I can...
The hats worn by Alvy "Hank Kimball" Moore were made by the Bee Hat Company of St. Louis, MO.
I own two of these, one purportedly from the Green Acres costumer that bears a "Western Costume" mark.
Not sure of the model or style distinction but I'm still trying to run that down.
