If you like the Vanson leather and construction, but want to be able to adjust the waist, then the Model B works well...I had my choice between the Model B and the custom lengthened Vanson Comet at Insurrection and chose the custom Comet because of how well it fit, but I can see the Model B...
Hmmm, checked it out and saw that there was another style next to it, the 660, which is much more British style with the two chest pockets. I will say, though, that Schott's "light weight" leather feels very flimsy to me. I really do like this style, though, the back with no "action" is...
Very nice review! While I am not a Schott fan (though I associate with a few..LOL), you really did justice to this jacket and gave members something to think about. I know that the bi-swing back is classic Schott, I've always hoped they would come out with a back design like what you see on a...
+1 for Insurrection. I collected a lot of jackets using ebay, but I never found one with the right fit, even when the measurements were stated and correct. I'm a stickler for fit and it was great to be able to try a vintage jacket on before purchasing it! I know that flying in to Seattle may...
Christ! That is one bad ass jacket! Congratulations!!! I love the black mouton snap-on collar. VERY SHARP! The things Insurrection does to this jacket are very vintage inspired. Their knowledge of vintage really comes through in their designs and modifications. Really, it's more like a...
The collar is detachable with two buttons on the inside, back of the collar. You can see how Insurrection designed the button on mouton collar on their webpage at www.insurrectionvintage.com. The pictures of how they do it are on their "Online Shopping: New Leather Jackets" tab. By the way...
I'm currently rebuilding a Triumph Bonnie...and ride a reissue. The jackets at Insurrection seem to fit the 1960s look and feel of my bike perfectly!
Geez! I've seen Wade's custom CHP in person! That has to be the coolest jacket that I've ever seen! It's such a show stopper, nothing can...
I've been an Insurrection customer for a while now and I just wanted to post up to say how incredible I believe this shop to be. I've been all over the US and Europe and I've never been to a shop where I can try on all of my favorite brands, back to back, comparing fits, leathers, styles, etc...
While I'm partial to the cafe racer, this is a great classic rocker-style jacket! I like that it doesn't have an attached belt, which I see on the Schotts as well as so many other versions. Wearers always leave it unbuckled and sloppy!
Enjoy it--I don't think there are too many like it...
You've really got to appreciate the fit and quality of this jacket. One word--"WOW!"
BTW--Talked to Wade today to set aside some time tomorrow to get fitted and just thought I'd let folks know that Insurrection just got a whole batch of Aero FQHH 1930s Half Belt jackets in. Wade says it's one...
I'm confused. Schott jackets, at this point in time, are pretty much fashion jackets. They certainly aren't made of high-quality leather. Vanson jackets are stiff because the hides are so good! The stiff hide is what you're paying for...
Yet, the jacket does have that Schott 141 look. Good...
I definitely agree in the distinction between the cafe racer fit and the 50s halfbelt fit. I really like my long length cafe racer (it's one of the Aero custom cafe' racers that a store in Seattle, Insurrection, carries), but my 40s Hercules halfbelt fits similarly to your Aero version and I...
I just went back to see what you were looking for...not just a mandarin collar! Call John Chapman at Good Wear for one of his Buco replicas or call Insurrection for one of theirs. Each can put any type of collar on that you'd like.
I got one last week and still am trying to get my girlfriend to snap some good photos of me in it. I simply love it!
Yet, here are some photos from Insurrection's website.
Insurrection might already have what you want in stock too. I bought my Aero racer there off-the-rack and I wouldn't have changed one thing about it had I gone custom. I'm glad I didn't have the wait time, yet I can definitely see why people wait for these jackets, given their extraordinary...
IMHO, go with Insurrection. Wade and Will (Will at Aero) really connect. Wade also has a ton of knowledge about a wide variety of cafe' racer collars and cafe' racers in general. With Wade you'll want to talk about hardware, different back styles, sizing, HH facing, *collar style,* body / arm...
From what I learned yesterday at Insurrection, the PLU-3 is pretty darn sleek, but the Aero-made Buco J-100 will be even sleeker, much like the very sleek original 1960s cafe' racers.
I'll get some pictures when my girlfriend gets back from NYC on Tuesday, but here's the back from Insurrection's website:
Here's the back from another TFL member who posted his Insurrection-purchased cafe' racer (I think this user did some treatment technique to his jacket because the...
I'll snap some pictures as soon as I get a chance. Right now, I'm headed out for the night, but I can tell you that the Aero Cafe' Racers have a much "fuller" back than a lot of vintage jackets (I sure tried on a lot today) such as Bates or Brimaco. I really do like the Aero Cafe' Racer fit...
