Hap, I went through the same dilemma not so long ago while attending a party at the music center. Since the entire party took place in a "public area" I chose to leave my hat on for the duration of my stay; plus there wasn't a hat/coat check available. Received some compliments, but no sneers...
I love wearing my hats, and I don't mind feeling different. However, I would like to see hats make a true comeback, as I think it alludes to more sophisticated attitudes. But, I could be wrong.

I can only echo what others have said. All though I have yet to purchase a hat from you (notice I said "yet"), you have answered many of my questions with sincerity and patience. Get well soon.
Just picked up a "vintage" 1960's Milan Bonar-Phelps off of OFAS. Don't think it was ever worn. And yes, I will post some pics. Just wanted to say I love those Milans. :)
