My father grew up in a very small town in Michigan in the 40's and 50's and he says that the operators knew all the gossip in town and also that when my dad wanted to find one of his friends, the operator would usually know if the person was at their house or had gone to visit someone else...
Bashing?
What's the point of bashing your own hat?
I have about 5 hats now and every one has come with already bashed from the hat stores where they have been purchased.
I'm just curious as to why so many people talk about doing their own bashing?
I have several books signed by the authors...
I have a few signed Robert B. Parker from a book signing I attended a few years back. He is one of my favorite authors and I'm sad that he recently passed away.
I have a book by Warren Miller given to me as gift by my in-laws because I enjoy...
I just read through this entire thread and now I am even more ready for Season 4 to finally get here.
I've recently turned one of my co-workers on to the show and he has been watching the DVDs. He was planning to watch Season 3 over the weekend so I'm looking forward to his reaction to things...
Village Hat Shop has a location in Sacramento also
123 K Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
(916) 444-7475
The Hat Store in Nevada City, CA is nice as well
314 Broad St.
Nevada City, CA 95959
And since it was mentioned that there were no listings for hat shops in Phoenix, I thought I...
I have 8 pairs of AE's, if I'm not forgetting any.
My favorites would have to be my McCallister's in a cordovan, reddish, color although my black Park Avenues would be up there as well.
Well at least mine doesn't have belt loops and I do wear a cummerbund.
I have lace-up shoes though, but they are patent leather which is far and away better than some of the shoes you see people wearing even at black tie events lol
Yeah, I know that peaked or shawl lapels are technically more correct.
Then again, I always dreamed of being a lounge singer so I'm OK with my notch lapels. :)
I've bought several suits on Ebay. The keys are to know your sizing, know what brands you like and read the descriptions VERY carefully.
It really helps to go to a real store first and try suits on so you get a sense of what you like and how different brands fit.
I have a single breasted, notch lapel, 100% wool tuxedo that I bought new on Ebay a few years back. It's a no-name label but it looks nice. I wear it a few times a year to various events. I've definitely saved money by owning it rather than having to rent for those occasions.
Reading this...
In the small Michigan town where I attended college in the late 80's, every number in town started with the same two digits so you could make a local call just by dialing the last 5 numbers.
As to the proliferation of area codes, I've always understood it was caused in large part by the...
P.S. Forgot to mention that its funny how the mainstream media is just catching on to this whole movement. This site and others have been around for several years, but apparently now they are getting some attention.
I think a lot of this "return of men's men" stuff is a reaction to the changing economic times and the downturn in the economy. As a website that enjoys history, this whole change seems similar to what I've read about the change in the US after the Roaring 20's and the 1929 Market Crash. It...
Sacramento has the big chains like Mortons and Ruth's Chris. They are dependably good. From this thread I think I am going to have to try Cattleman's.
If you're in Phoenix, aside from the chains, you should try Durant's. It's one of the oldest restaurants in town and the place where the...
