David, I'm impressed with the finish of the Heron jackets. As you mentioned the originals were meant to fit like a sausage, more straight up and down and not much/no tapering...so for me its whether i want true authentic or a version of it, that won't make it that authentic, if you know what i...
If 'Macintosh' macs are pricey try going to Aquascutum or Burberry. You're looking at well over 1000 squids. There's prestige and exclusive, and then there's the point of no return. Crazy. Then again The Macintosh look really good, but for 400+ there has to be some more detailing... a button...
yep..wear is a big factor too. Agree about goatskin...very underated hide/skin. I read somewhere that comparatively, goat is on par with
horsehide for durability and hard wearing. John Chapman told me that goat is pretty hard to work with as it doesn't fold n stay the way horsehide does, but...
Baron...Agree with your sentiments..I'm not one for 'bullet proof' Horsehide, and have said so in an earlier post about Aero's jackets (ducks for cover)...
not very functional and there are issues with sewing and detailing that are hard to achieve with stiff/thick hides. I tried an Aero on in a...
Geez those Bedggood boots look nice. Am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for a happy outcome. If i could make a comment, the BG's 'tongue' where the vamp is sewn into the shaft looks to have a square shape while the AM's have a more rounded look, but that might be moot point...Thanks for all...
Photo's can be found here on Fe-Vintage online photo library

and scroll back and forward's.
IMO they're pretty pricy comparable to other styled jackets from other makers. and if you're right about 'seeing some quality...
Dear all
Has anyone had much or any experience with Himel Bros jackets? in particular the fit? I'm eyeing off the 1929 Heron Zipper but have to say I've got questions about the fit. I absolutely adore the very early motorcycle and civilian jackets of the 20's; that simple tunic style, very...
Yep.. for $1000 they would have to be, so RMW's would then be 'under oath' so to speak to make them the benchmark....i would hope.
Andrew, what do you think about the toe caps on the Bedggood boots? Are they wider and higher than their British counterparts?
Also the soles on the War...
well done, I'm glad they did.
re RMW's and the Air Ministry boot..looking at the pics of the two pairs held at the War Memorial, the tops do look wider, bearing in mind I haven't seen them physically, but the British made versions 'appear' to be more straight up and down, even with the...
That's a bit naughty of them....can't imagine you'd find this photo just anywhere, they'd have to have searched for it. They'd have a hard time arguing what relationship Lewis has to Bedggood in Melb....
that said though I still wouldn't buy them, even at 350 squids :)
Shooman..RM's are the business. But while they maybe the most versatile they're not truly custom made. re. if you want to tweak a few details on a boot style that aren't part of their combo style sheets, then they wont consider it all. At least that's what Michael Williams has repeatedly told...
Kowalski I agree. The way the instep 'pulls' the leather causing it to ripple isn't a good sign..something amiss with
the lasting. Toe cap looks very flat....
Oh dear..hope RM Williams don't see this; a competitor making them...or maybe if they do they will go ahead and make their own versions. I'm no expert, but looking at the D.Lewis boots I'm still not convinced about the vamp...or the open lap seam. The shape doesn't seem right..I wonder what the...
another comment about the 36 Pattern boots held by the Australian War Memorial...just noticed too that the soles don't appear to be welt sewn double soles, but single ( albeit still quite thick) leather, but brass screwed? perhaps...I noticed on other repro's that they were welt sewn.
not that...
when they say " It took us years to find a cobbler..." who is 'us' and who's the cobbler? seems a bit... strange to me. Funny there's no link, or company mentioned...could be dodgy..but then again. I have no idea.
they look good though.
Thanks for the pics...and very glad RMW's still have it on the cooker as it were. I'd gladly chip in for posting the boots to South Australia. Just to let you know (and sorry this is slightly off topic) we've temporarily moved to London, so I'm a bit cashed strapped for the next few weeks until...
News flash...
Andrew , Smithy and co....gazing at your Bedggood boots and thinking about RM's I thought whimsically they'd look great with an ankle strap. I did some research to see if the Flying boot were made with ankle strap in another pattern...yes they did on the 1941 Pattern, but it...
