Thanks to all for the tips...re Himel's jacket: he's quoting over 2200 for a custom, thats in US$. Lost worlds can do it for 1500...without the leather options.
I think I'll contact John to see if he can give it a go, and yep I heard he's very fond of the Japanese leathers
He'll be in a better...
Dear all and sundry
I haven't been on the forum for a few years...that said I'd like to seek some advice
from the members here on sourcing Butterscotch Brown cowhide or horsehide.
I came across a Butterscotch brown cowhide jacket by LostWorlds ( see photo attached, hopefully) of their National...
Oh dear. Very disappointing news.. I am scratching my head though to understand how it is that in 2011 we could not re-create a boot made in the 1930's. Finding high quality materials, components and machinery is becoming a depressingly familiar problem in the leather crafts, so I can understand...
Dear all and hello....I'm a recent convert to Tweed, especially the heavy Tweeds made from hard and coarse yarns. I was recently in the UK and found a few pairs of tweed trousers ( not my size) but it inspired me to start looking for tailors who could make me a few pairs of bespoke trousers.
I...
hmm....who's the other company?
hope they can solve the problem. Strange that RMW's have technical issues, but then I'm not there trying to reproduce a 1930's pattern.
thanks Andrew

Andrew
Do you know at this stage if RMW's will be doing them in brown? and also when the prototype comes out, will Floungers get a chance to give some feedback?
cheers

I'm a big fan of J.C.'s work too. As he moves into civilian jackets down the track, does anyone think he may be interested in having a go at making a 'Grizzly'. I know he's totally snowed under with orders, but I'm wondering if it's worth contacting him with the idea/proposition later in the...
I agree CBI...John's work is wonderful and I reckon he's doing the finest work going round right now. There's that something extra in his finish and fit that lifts it above almost all others. Considering he's doing it all himself its' even more astonishing...
Thanks for making the distinctions clearer. One more question if you or anyone can maybe answer re: LW HH....I've only ever seen pics of Russet brown being used. Do they offer a Seal or mid-tone brown HH in their selection? or can you request it?
cheers
What I'd like to know is if Aero has just the one type of brown FQHH or a few, because the sample i was sent wasn't convincing.
Didn't like the finish, and the creasing caused the colour to fade. Can anyone say if the LW horsehide is any different?
If French calf they're using it'll definitely be top shelf. I didn't see the pair you sent in, so i'm wondering what the toe shape will be/look like. The Beddgoods to me seem to have a rounder and higher toe shape, while the UK pattern seems to be a flatter/lower toe..would that be a fair...
Andrew..great news. I knew they'd do it. I know you said that you'll pass on details as they come out...but can I ask in advance ( as I'm a bit excited ) will they be considering an ankle strap? as per the Beddgood versions held at the AMW? and I wonder if they'll be using the Tan Willow hides...
I am in love....can't wait to see what JC ( that's not Jesus Christ..but he could be) comes up with in the rest of the 'California Sportswear" line. Personally I would like to see him tackle the 'Grizzly'..now that would be very special. I may send him a warm email and ask. No harm in trying. We...
Beautiful jacket. Got to hand to John Chapman..a fine hand and a deft touch. His repros are definitely in tune with the style of the times..unbeatable.
He's my hero :)
Hi, I just received some samples of the brown FQHH, vintage brown and oil pull from Amanda too. It's for a Grizzly i'm planning for next year.
The stiffer Brown FQ is veg tanned, while the lighter Vintage brown seems to me a chrome tannage, making it more pliable, and a little more crease...
