    I believe Brigitte Bardot more or less introduced this look. Nude lips, smudged eye makeup and unruly hair suggested wild, sleepless nights and made red lips seem very conservative, prim and proper. Pastel pinks were probably around earlier but didn't have the same outrageous connotations...
