Finally got to see The Maltese Falcon...
Hey all, today I received a... let's call it "safety copy" from The Maltese Falcon from a Bogart fan here in Germany, that I met through my work at the office. It was a video cd in opposite to a DVD, but nonetheless the quality of the picture is superb. I really enjoyed the movie...- Marc

grosgrain ribbon source
Remember to specify real hatband when ordering from Schiff. Otherwise you'll get their 705 pattern - which is too coarse for a hat grosgrain ribbon. Regards, Marc -

Sharpey I've been trying to get a hold of excellent ribbon in the U.S., in the U.K., Czech Republic and in Germany... It's a pain in the butt, to be honest. I got samples from everywhere, but it's the "coarse" ribbon, that you see on some modern hats and it just doesn't do the felt any justice... -

Determining Felt quality?
If the fur is NOT from a "free-range, organically-fed beaver", it's no good. Best fur is from wild anymals and as far as I know it's not even possible to raise beavers in cages, so... ;) Cheers, Marc -

The ability to tell the difference on felts comes with practice (as with most other things). In the beginning you can get a cheap wool felt hat from e-bay and compare it to are nice fur felt hat.
