IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Whoto Chaps, hope you are all well, The quest for an original Irvin has ended. Thanks to EBay I am now awaiting an early example apparently issued to an air gunner in early 1940. Oh and by the way Andrew, it has its original Dot zips! Also on the way is a 70s ALC Irvin which I intend for...

    'Das Boot' Jacket

Latest Jacket Here is my latest jacket! [/IMG] I believe it to be a genuine WW2 U Boat Submariners jacket. The Leather is starting to crumble up somewhat so I have softened it with some of Eastman’s leather conditioner which has helped. I may even try to find some original...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Good Evening local chap, The jacket has arrived - I shall be posting some pictures soon (will tag them onto the Das Boot thread). Not a picture of my motorcycle I am afraid. The oldest bike I have at the moment is a 50's AJS, although I am on the lookout for a 30's Norton which I think my...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Thanks for your reply Andrew. I am looking for an original WW2 jacket. I have been picking up bits on information from the lounge about dot zips and panels and the like but thought I should do a bit of research so I am confident about any jacket I may buy. I have found lots on the A2 on...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

WW2 Irvin Help Wanted Whoto chaps, I am now thinking of a WW2 Irvin. Can anyone point me towards an informative web site that shows details such as zips, amount of panels etc? Or any tips before I let go of my hard earned cash? I want to be sure I know what I am buying. James.

    Flight Jacket for Motorcycle use?

Hi, I would highly recommend the Belstaff Classic Tourist Trophy wax cotton jacket. Belstaff are now re-making these with the CE armour in the shoulders and elbows. You can order them from TPC Distribution on 01422 202444. I have just bought one of these new Belstaffs for my girlfriend...

NEW A-2 PURCHASE! ANY AND ALL OPINIONS/ADVICE WELCOME

If I were to have only one repro A2 (I have several at the moment) it would be an Aero. The fit is as original as they use original patterns. They are also great to deal with. I am sure if you get the size right (just call them) you will be more than happy. Both my Aeros are getting better and...

    Orignal A-2 Jacket Care

Putting leather jackets on hangers depends on the hanger. What I mean by this is that if the hanger is thin say a wire type, this may over time leave an impression or even stretch part of the leather. This or course will vary due to the thickness of the leather and indeed the weight of the...

A2's, do you miss handwarmer pockets?

The leather on that jacket looks great but those pockets sure do go up high! It reminds me of a jacket I saw on ebay about a month ago, a 50s star I think. Was going to bid, but those pockets? not sure?

A2's, do you miss handwarmer pockets?

I have never even thought about the lack of hand warmer pockets when I put on my A2. How about puting the money you will save on ordering a standard jacket towards a pair of gloves? Cheerio;)

    Author in need of quotes...

I got interested in A2 jackets as I have always liked leather jackets and I especially like the cut of the A2. But then, if I were asked why do I like them, it could be that over the years seeing old films with pilots and heroes wearing them unconsciously sinks in, so when I wear mine it...

    3oz leather means...?

Thanks fellas, Very interesting and much to consider. I am thinking now that in order to find out how heavy a particular jacket will be is to buy one! I would say that if you purchased, say, an Eastman Werber then the weight will vary from one to another but I would venture a guess they...

    3oz leather means...?

Just thinking what exactly 3oz leather means? I have just weighed some of my A2 jackets (all 40” except L/Worlds 42”) and got this result: Cooper Goat 250g Eastman Werber 300g Aero H/Hide 520g Aero S/Hide 740g L/Worlds Dubow 820g How come the Werber and Aero are both stated as...

My new A-2 jacket. Your expert opinion please?

Hi, I have a Lost Worlds A2 which has the smallest shoulders of my A2s (it’s a size to big but the shoulder fit is perfect) but they are pricey, unless you get lucky (as I did) and find one E Bay. The next best fit I have on the shoulders is Aero which in my opinion have the best...

    Some interesting pics

Interesting photos, thanks, I have seen Combat America which is both fascinating and harrowing, brave lads. I notice that some of the jackets did not fit all that well and the leather looks quite thin too.
