Wanted to revive this thread in case anyone else has some tips for removing the shine from leather items. I'm looking for a dull or matte appearance, similar to what leather looks like after many years of use.
Very cool to be able to participate in a vintage docudrama! I went to film school, so I understand the long stretches of waiting and yes, cold, making a movie can be when filming on location.
What did they make the blood out of?
I'm a big fan of tintype photography, or at least the look that can be duplicated to appear as tintype. I'm thinking of old west pictures of gunfighters and the like.
Does anyone know how one goes about getting this look with regular digital photography, like for instance through Photoshop or...
I'm afflicted with a large head myself (7 3/4), and a long oval one on top of that. I wasn't happy until I went custom, had my head measured, got a conformer kit, etc. Now I'm very happy with my hats. You might consider going the custom route from the start, as it will save you time, money, and...
Here's my latest hat:
I have another in the works by the best hatter I'm acquainted with, Roy Jackson at Jaxonbilt Hats. He's making a reproduction of the hat worn by Everett Hitch in Appaloosa for me.
And a wild rag to boot! Don't worry about the looks you get in the UK, you'd get looks here in Nevada, which is a very western-oriented culture. So western in fact that this morning at Starbucks I noted a young man openly carrying a firearm in strong-side holster.
I only wear vested suits. When I bought my first suits about 5 years ago the salesman tried to talk me out of buying them with vests, saying they were not in style. I said that's why I wanted them, and now I see vested suits all the time.
Thanks Cliff, I'm aware of Last Best West and in fact have a hat from them, but I'm looking for the original maker that worked on the movie hats. When I have my hat made it will be through Jaxonbilt.
I'm glad we can all enable each other's addictions on the Fedora Lounge:-) And here I was starting to feel guilty for contemplating my fourth western hat, now I can order another round without shame:-) Thanks Fedora Lounge!
Does anyone know who made the hats in the movie Appaloosa? For my next hat project I was thinking about having a copy of Everett Hitch's hat made, but depending on lighting the color looks very different, from a greenish brown to a dark sand color.
Thanks!
I agree Broker, even in tough times people back then seemed to have standards for themselves that a lot of people today, though certainly not all, don't have.
