The worst rocker in the past 150 years.
Long pitching and rolling for what seemed to go on for several minutes, though probably 2-3 minutes at most.
Our staff was very quick and efficient in securing all the emergency exits and in calming our patients. A TV in a lobby fell, as did a shelf in...
That's because they are from the days when HCV was not yet specifically diagnosed--known at most as non-A non-B hepatitis. The tattooed HCV positive patients I know are 1) at least in their late 50s, and 2) are either mostly (unfortunately) yakuza, and certain groups of traditional carpenters...
:offtopic: again :p
Manjidani, or, Manji-dani, means Manji Valley. "Tani" (the change from "t" to "d" is a Japanese-type liaison) means valley, and would indicate either the location of the ninja village, or the location of the main battle ground.
"Kumi" (-gumi) means group/clan. Also commonly...
That would be "Manji-gumi" in original Japanese.
On a related note, there is a very famous novel by one of the representative Japanese novelists, Jun'ichiro Tanizaki, titled "卍 Manji" in Japanese, of which the English translation is titled Quicksand.
For us, it has to be whole deal--red...
That would most certainly apply to European/American/Judo-Christianity based cultures and societies, but I wouldn't think so for Asian/Hindu-Buddhism based cultures and societies.
As I posted earlier, it is used here as the map code for Buddhist temples, and is in relatively daily use in other...
It is called "Manji" here, and the clockwise Manji is a map code that stands for Buddhist temples. So, to us, the first thing that it symbolises are Buddhist temples.
If you say Manji, we'll think of Buddhist temples and nothing else. When the same symbol is called a swastika, only then will...
My father was living/working in Kokura at that time. Kokura was the primary target, Nagasaki the second. Kokura on that day was heavily overcast, and the bombers, after flying around for a break in the clouds an hour or so (at least, that's what my father said, that he heard the drone of the...
Yes, it's a fox. Most are necessarily simplistic because you're supposed to fold them without cutting the paper. Some of the more complex ones have to have a cut here and there to fold the paper into the particular shape. Another method is to combine twoor more papers.
A few how to sites...
Not a hobby per se. No fancy stuff, just some basic ones learned as a kid. Origami is one of our traditional play craft, after all :D
The simple, basic ones are very good tools for rehablitation as exercise of the fingertips, and mental acuity for the aged.
Dressed for today's New Year event for our patients.
Plum blossom motif kimono to symbolize the coming spring and rabbit motif obi to symbolize the Year of the Rabbit. The rabbit design is adapted from Choju(-jinbutsu) Giga, considered an origin of manga.

We have plenty here.
Traditional foods.
Zoni. Special soup with mochi (rice cake) in it. Two types of soup, clear soup with square cut mochi, which is my family's tradition, and white miso with round mochi, my husbands's family's tradition.

New Year here is family time, so I took the time out to visit my 91 year old spinster aunt in a kimono she gave me a few years ago. The pine motif on the obi is a favored festive motif for prosperity and longevity.
Detail of kimono motif.
It is 5 minutes into 2011 here, now, so here is my New Year card for this year for all of you.
This is the year of the rabbit for us. The motif I used for the card are pics of the woven rabbit motifs from a kimono obi of mine :)
