Now why did you have to go this for, torfjord? :p This is pretty much what I was going to commission, instead of the one currently being made for me. Unlined too. Can't wait to see this.
I might have to go the '70's collar - @ton - do you think 3 inches will do it?
What neck opening did you...
My own jacket, which I gave away, was this one - straight out of the bag here. I don't remember how the back fit and didn't take photos. I seem to remember more of a tailored V shape but maybe I'm wrong. Having a look at some Buco patterns just now, they seem to vary - or maybe it's the photos...
Looks ok at the front but there is something not quite right about the pattern at the back. These jackets need to be V shaped - as I said on your other post there is a fair bit of surplus leather at the back. It's not fatal but it is a flaw.
There seems to be a lot of surplus leather in the back - odd as the front seems trim. Did you want the sleeves that long? My other tweak to this pattern would be to use a single layer of leather under the sleeve zip - like most cafe racers. Shawn seems to use a double layer which makes the...
Good example. Yes, with period 'reproductions' we tend to privilege the things we like, the things we imagine to be present and we pass over the things we don't like.
I think I get you but really I have seen too many period photos of working men wearing jackets and matching outfits, where fit and a whole look clearly matter very much to them.
Very period accurate -about 50% of my period jackets have had panels that don't line up like that. Not saying I'd want that in a carefully made $1000 jacket, but it is a thing.
I'm going to check out Mank but I have been put off by the outrageously self-conscious visual style and the grating Welles impersonation by Tom Burke. But I've only seen the promos. Unfortunately, very few people I have met even know who Orson Welles is - one person I spoke to recently was sure...
I agree. Your highly complex pattern notwithstanding, it shouldn't cost extra to design a good period pattern - in fact it might be cheaper as you end up using less leather :D. The issue is most likely the approach you take to patterning and customer expectations. You do need to spend some time...
Pretty good job given this is a complex pattern to make. Yes, it needs tweaks. It's one of those jackets that probably needs 2 or 3 iterations before the pattern is properly worked out. Ordering something like this is like a development job.
They may not need a design guy - if Shawn takes on...
I wish you success in finding this gear. It may be helpful to learn that this site tends to focus on early and mid 20th Century, golden era clothing - for instance, the look of Bogart; Brando, James Dean. While there is some flexibility in style tastes here, your interest appears to be later and...
I'm sorry you feel bad about your jacket purchase. But there is no need to be rude about my sincere response which was based on the small amount of information you provided -
My only complaint is that the site says "order a 40 (XS) if you're chest size 42," which is what I did and it's too...
