1931 Dated Hacking Jacket On Ruby Lane

Great find, Mario! Looks like it is in excellent shape and a largish size.

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

[/IMG] This one is not vintage but a good example of a new retro style Hamilton. I added the pigskin band. Shown on an unusual pocket square by Hermes.

[/IMG] This one is from the 50s--a yellow gold Omega Seamaster with browm crocodile band.

The nicest comment I ever heard

Doubly nice to feel flattered and virtuous--and caffeinated!

    Wing tip shoes

I fall into the category of being a borderline Imelda Marcos--lots of shoes but lovingly cared for and constantly rotated.

    Wing tip shoes

[/IMG] I spoke too soon. These fine shoes now retail for $700 which is only $23 dollars a year if you have them as long as I do, but that it a lot to spend on a pair of shoes. Tony Blair is a fan, for what that's worth.....

    Wing tip shoes

The best wingtips I have ever had--and I've had plenty--are Church's. I still have a pair of Chetwynds that I bought the year I graduated from college (!) that still look great--good shoe care and resoling make them last forever. If you amortize the cost over 30 years, they are a bargain...

The nicest comment I ever heard

I was wearing a Panama fedora once in a Starbucks and the barista said--and she was many years younger than me--"You are really working that hat. I wouldn't mind working that hat with you...." I never thought that hats would provide pick-up lines! As a middle-aged married guy I was flattered...

    The International Wool Felt Consortium

[/IMG] Here is a great looking wool hat from Orvis for $59--great value for a hat to knock around in. I have a similar one from Orvis in brown with a wider brim that I wear fly fishing and it has been through the ringer--literally--and still looks great. I wouldn't wear a good fur hat out...

    Barber Shops

One last bastion of old school babrber shops are traditional clubs like Athletic Clubs, University Clubs, venerable institutions like the Union League Club, The Jonathan Club, the Olympic Club, etc. Ony works if you can get into those places, but reassuring to know that they are there.

[/IMG][/IMG][/IMG] A few more--a 1940s Rolex Bubble Back Oyster with rose gold bezel, with its original strap from Donovan and Seamans in downtown Los Angeles--they were on the ground floor of the LAAC on 7th Street. Also, an early 1920s Elgin that is a transitional style--it really is a...

Spectacular--Wallis should have been so lucky.....

Aftershave : That nostalgic true masculine smell!

Great, classic combination of smells. Whenever I think of Vitalis I think of Holden Caulfield's roommate: "Old Stradlater was putting Vitalis in his hair. MY Vitalis...."

    Western, anyone?

[/IMG] As western as I get--a Steton Gun Club Catera--sort of a transitional hat. I rarely ride without it and it stays on, even at a full gallop!

Aftershave : That nostalgic true masculine smell!

I may buy some Estee Lauder stock on the strength of that!

What Did You Drink Last Night?

I had some Bruichladdich Rocks--an unpeated single malt. Bracing and floral but with the depth that is so satisfying. Now, don't get me wrong--I love peaty monsters and sometimes, nothing short of a Lagavullin will do (you wake up feeling like you dragged a peat bog into bed with you no matter...

    What Are You Reading

Reading "West with the Night" by Beryl Markham. Right up there with my favorites by St. Exupery--"Night Flight" and "Wind, Sand and Stars" (aka "Terre des Hommes")--seriously good stuff. I know, evryone talks about "Le Petit Prince" and yes that it brilliant but not the same. Occasionally I...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Yes, I want to know, too. I have had it made with pure turpentine and beeswax--is yours sort of like that? Lovely smell, by the way.

    What are you listening to?

In advance of tomorrow's Irish shenannigans I have been listening to Glenn Miller's version of the Londonderry Air. Oh, yes, Danny Boy makes all American Irish weep, but I prefer this. Maybe it is because I am not Irish? Tomorrow I will be Irish for the day, though--every one in Los Angeles...
