Smashing!
The hat looks smashing on you! Much better than it looked in the attic!
Thank you for posting photos, and take good care of that beauty of a lid...
Cheers,
Johnny
Hat Etiquette Issues... in Elementary Schools?
Who would have thought elementary schools would be dealing with hat etiquette issues?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but kids didn't wear fedoras in the 1940's and 1950's.
This is a whole new level of popularity.
The video is pretty good, too...
Grandpa Schoble...
I just got an email from a woman in New Jersey who says her mother-in-law is Mr. Schoble's daughter.
How cool is that?
I'll do my best to get more information, and I'll post it on the Lounge ASAP.
Check Out the SALE at Johnnyphi.com
We're running a great sale at Johnnyphi.com. We've marked down every hat, and you can use the coupon code "fedora" to get an additional 25% OFF of the sale price.
This has been a fun project, but I'm ready to liquidate!
Check out johnnyphi.com.
Thank you!
I haven't been on the Lounge as much as I would like, and I'm very pleased to find this thread. Thank you all for your positive comments.
I've been corresponding with FL member Babs, and we're working on a hat for his son.
Hopefully, we'll be able to post some of his...
Very Cool!
I can't tell you how happy I am to read your comments about the Royalist. I knew they were great hats, but they weren't a "name brand", so I didn't treat them the same as the rest of the hats. I wish I had, but I'm glad that you ended up as the beneficiary!
Keep in mind... I have...
Did I mention...
Mr. Corvelli's grandfather was from Italy... Did I mention that? He might be worth a visit next time you're in the DC area. Unfortunately, he got into a dispute with his last apprentice/partner, and his "partner" ended up absconding with half of Mr. Corvelli's vintage hat...

Dittos...
Mr. Corvelli is an old pro. (He's listed under "American Hatters" in the Yellow Pages.) He works out of his apartment, and he's very reasonably priced. Probably $35 to $40 for a clean and block. He can also replace sweatbands and ribbons.
He was trained by his father and his...
A Few Notables from Hirsch's Attic...
I've posted these elsewhere, but it's probably worth reposting them in this excellent thread. I can't tell you much about the history of each box, but I do think the yellow Stetson box is nearly identical to the box posted by Jimmy. These aren't showpieces...
Show us the hats!
Pete... I'm glad you like the hats, but we've been waiting over 2 weeks for you to show us how you shaped them. How did they turn out?
Pre-1940s?
This hat has been discussed on other threads, but I don't think we've officially decided if it's pre-1940's or not.
(Forgive my lack of perfectly staged photos.)
It definitely has the gold/black size tag.
Outstanding!!!
Beautiful! You did a great job creasing the hat, and I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the hat.
These Royalists truly are mystery hats. I have always believed that they were made by Adam, but I don't really have any evidence to back that up. It's just a hunch. I also...
Wow!
Thanks for posting these photos! They are great!
I should have hired you to photograph every hat... Although, you probably would have charged me for the travel from Germany to DC. :eusa_doh:
Looks familiar...
Your hat reminds me of this hat... I'd say early to mid 50's, just because the liner says the hat is an "Executive", which is a quality designation from the 50's, but I'm still stumped by the wide variation of details. The style is so similar, yet the liner is different...
Shameless, but successfull...
Great discussion. I haven't seen any mention of Long in my stash, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. Makes sense that Adam was buying wholesale hats and using their retail distribution channels to make some dough.
In general, Adam was shameless when it...
