Let me get this straight: the guy is in Mexico on vacation, hitting sightseeing sites, bars, and beaches, all the while identifying vintage jackets on old American movies, in a bar, no less. That's dedication.
Because most of the (very high) price you pay is for the branding. It is fine if you want to pay for the prestige of a luxury brand. Most here would rather pay for quality hides and workmanship which usually amounts to about 1/2 of Chapal prices or less (ballpark).
The jacket will definitely go well with your bikes! The leather taylor in Berkeley - is this the Hungarian guy? I forgot the name, but there is a pretty famous leather repair shop there.

LOL, you won't have trouble fixing the cut; keep us apprised on that and the zipper. The tape failure is all too common, but there are no easy solutions.
This jacket is soooo awesome. The cut, because it is sharp, will be easy to repair, almost invisible. The most robust way would be glue the "lips" of the cut together, and then get under the lining and glue a patch of leather on the other side. Rubber cement works well. It may hold without the...
