Thanks! I think I'll be pulling the trigger on the Grais. I do not know the name of the model, but the label states that it is FQHH, and the seller dates it from the 50s (1949 according to the label, "Series GCR"). It is a kind of "A-2" in the way that it has a wind flap, epaulets and cargo...
Found a Fieldmaster with pile lining and (faux?) fur collar (Steer), a quilted Hercules (HH) both by Sears, and also a kind of quilted A-2 with side pockets atop of the cargo ones by Grais (HH). Are they any good?
I am quite OK with buying pre-owned, I haven't purchased anything brand new from stores for some years now. As long as the age of the jacket doesn't affect its usability and durability (gaping hole in the lining or leather in about a year or two of casual use for example), I'm all for buying...
Hi everyone,
I am looking for my cold autumn/not too below freezing winter jacket (maybe a range between 10°C/50°F to -7°C/20°F, keeping in mind that I fairly enjoy cold weathers). Quliting is what I will probably go for, since I like its versatility over shearling or sherpa during warmer days...
Thanks!
Any advice on how to improve on this? I want a functional jacket that I can zip and unzip easily, not spend hours fiddling with it everytime I need the extra warmth :')
Here is the fit check (or should I make a separate thread? Sorry I'm a bit new around here)
I think it fits me good, albeit a tad bit too snug for my liking, but apparently this is how this kind of jacket is supposed to fit.
My biggest gripe with this size is my inability to properly layer...
I finally received my High Notch Catoosa !
It is my very first "proper" leather jacket, so here's a quick, inexperienced, review of this beauty:
First, the specs:
The leather: Shinki Horsehide teacore
The lining: Satin
The hardwear: Brass Waldes Zipper, brass ball and chain and brass halfbelt...
Absolutely beautiful! The leather and stitchlines look fantastic. But I'm sad to hear that it doesn't fit you :(
I'm still waiting for mine, should be here soon!
Thanks for the response it is quite informative! That is logical, considering some tanneries' high popularity, namely Horween and Shinki Hikaku.
As for the High Notch Catoosa, I agree with your comment on the zipped sleeves. I was also on the fence about it, but then thought "oh well I already...
He seems to be really meticulous with his work, reminds me of Field Leathers from what I see on both of their IGs. Glad to see skilled artisans taking pride in their work!
I guess that's true for Simmons Bilt for example, as it would be surprising for them not to take the opportunity to mention that their Japanese HH is from Shinki.
Quick info on Izumiya High Notch leather jackets straight from the horse's mouth:
It is Shinki Hikaku Leather. I suspected it, but now we have clear confirmation.
I bought this used Izumiya's house brand "High Notch" leather jacket recently.
It is the "Catoosa", as seen in Cordva_No's IG post:

Size 38, Horsehide teacore. Half-belt and multi panel back with a steep slanted chest pocket. Not exactly sure of the...
Quick Update:
Just bought the Catoosa jacket for 460 euros (about 510 USD), expecting it next wednesday!
I'll keep you guys updated and post some pics here.
Thanks for the insightful response @Canuck Panda !
It is indeed a great deal if they are about as good as those heavy hitters you mentioned!
I am more interested in their "Catoosa" model which I've seen pop up in Grailed for about 480€, which is fine by me. I'll probably pull the trigger...
Hello there fellow loungers,
Nice to meet you!
I've been lurking around for a month or so now and my account has recently been allowed into the forum.
What a vast amount of leather jacket knowledge!
I found this thread because of Cordva_no's posts on IG, as Izumiya's jacket caught my eye...
