We will be having a Tuskegee Airmen symposium at the Museum of Flight in Seattle over Memorial Day weekend for anyone that lives nearby and would like to attend.
Sorry to hear about Mr. Nielsen as I got to meet him a few years ago when we had a "Doolittle Raiders" event at the museum where I work. I also got to meet Mr. Thatcher, the turret gunner on "Rutured Duck" of the "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" book/movie fame.
Our WWII vets are declining at a...
Yes, strafing was very dangerous work, but the P-51 was ill suited for the job. The P-47 was much more up to the task and that was made evident by the creation of the 9th AF to handle the support of the D-day invasion by ordering them to destroy anything that moved on the ground.
As for...
Mine would be the FW-190D-13 and the P-51B (without Malcom hood).
Actually the F6F Hellcat produced more American aces than any other airplane. P-47s didn't get the kills that the Mustang got because it couldn't fly that far into Germany until late in the war. The strategy changed also...
Replies acknowledged, but let's call them what they are. A-2's are not Bomber jackets, nor are B-3s. I've seen and heard of bomber crew or fighter crew wearing either/or in their respective mounts, so neither is unique to the other.
"Bomber" jackets are just what Eastman and Aero have...
The one thing I noticed about the description is that they credit Major Goodson with 30 confirmed victories. His "actual" tally is 14 and that is the official record of the American Fighter Aces Association and the government who relies on the Victory Credit Board for that information.

Barbigirl, I work at the MOF where you took the ride.
;)
I also got some stick time in the B-17 "Nine o' Nine" back in the 90s when the FAA still allowed it. I got to "take the wheel" over Puget Sound and they even let me make a 180 degree turn back to the field. Needless to say, I...
Original WWII Cooper pics up!
Here are the original WWII Cooper A-2 pics I promised last week. WWII Coopers rarely show up, so when I had the chance to acquire this one, I jumped on it. It came as part of a Liasion pilot's grouping and there is a bunch more items that came with it (i.e...
A side note on the greatest blunder. Hitler was actually the Allies greatest ally. Why? Because of his "micro management" style and not finishing one job before starting another.
EDITED: CURRENT POLITICAL COMMENTARY REMOVED.
A little side note on the River Kwai. In the movie "Appocolypse Now", the scene in the hut by the river when they're playing Russian roullete was actually filmed on the River Kwai.
Does this include discussion about any companies that sell vintage clothing, etc. that won't sell to certain individuals because of their background, ethnic origin or tastes? That in itself could be considered political.
Just scored an original WWII Cooper A-2. For those in the know, it's one of the rarest contracts and is hardly ever seen. It belonged to a Liasion pilot and I got all of his uniforms, flight gear and tons of other stuff.
:)
