    Easy virtue pattern question

I am in love with the style of the movie easy virtue, and in particular this look http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/easy_virtue04.jpg Any ideas on sewing patterns for jacket or hat, or simply a nod towards the right direction? Are they both for men? Thanks!

    1940s wardrobe essentials

I am quite sure that feminine and well groomed is enough to set a girl apart, even if she doesn't dress vintage all the way. The 1940s was full of femininity, style, clothes that actually fit and look flattering. What a difference from today.

Excuse me Miss, do you Blog?

I do have a blog that I hadn't updated of cared for since quite sometime. However I re visited it hoping it would help me with my sewing and wardrobe plans if I have interaction with fellow minded people. After all, it was all those other AMAZING blogs about sewing and about vintage clothes...

    1940s wardrobe essentials

St. Louis, your comments on an ordinary woman's wardrobe are pretty much what I have been thinking about lately. Late 30s-early 40s are my favourite years, and yet I struggle to find my most flattering style. I have been thinking how I would dress if I had been actually alive back then. Not all...

Inspiration for the winter, Downton Abbey but not what you'd think

I was looking into my winter clothes, although it's still a blazing summer, far from over. I thought that this year I would actually use my stash fabrics and produce a wardrobe, with a theme and a certain style. Based on my existing clothes of course. To make a long story short, I ended up with...

Anyone else interested in trying out ration dieting?

Very interesting idea. I was just reading the thread and my heart bled, because I realized how different food experiences were during the war. If I were to follow the greek war diet, I would simply starve to death. Because the occupying armies (plural if you please), were taking all the food for...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I always get compliments when I wear 1950s style, hourglass dresses, and my hair is short or in a bob. I know 1950s is my best style, but I so love the 40s...:o My best "vintage" compliment came from an an older lady though. My hair is in a long bob, and she told me that I look like Natalie...

What time period would you live in, and where, if you had to for one year?

What an interesting thread. I suppose if I had to choose it would be 1949-1950. No war anymore, and a new world being created. But not in Greece because we were having a civil war then. In france maybe. Or working with the allies in post war Germany. A sense of creativity, energy, endless future...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Thanks this was very helpful. I prefer zippers myself, because buttons tend to be traitors now and then. So I usually sew down the button part, and they don't really open. Of course, when you sew you can make a fba and avoid the button problems, however I still prefer them decorative. As for the...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I hope this question hasn't been asked before. What if I wanted to combine a shirt and skirt pattern to make a dress. A seam in the waist will be there of course. Any alterations needed on the pattern to join them? I was thinking mostly about the skirt, because the shirt will be shortened (but...

    Frankenpattern for tea dress

I am considering doing that, combining an appropriate shirt and skirt. I have been looking for the perfect tea dress forever (in modern patterns, because I can't find here those vintage ones). I decided to do something about it. I want to do this so much, I may draft it from scratch, and...

    Imaginary wardrobe

You are so right, thanks for your answer and kind words. I suppose you are right, plus kindness is supposed to win in the end, doesn't it? I used to believe that a lot, but it seems I am turning into a cynic. I'll try to fight that though because it means defeat, to turn bitter ;) It does feel...

    How tall are you, Ladies?

I'm 1,67 m, which apparently is a bit over 5' 6'' . But according to this poll, you girls are tall!!! I am very typical for a greek woman, most of us have that height.

    Imaginary wardrobe

Oh, girls, I am no femme fatale eighter, but I think I should have been just to get back at someone I know :D Anyway, I agree it's not about clothes as it is about attitude. I'm not in the mood for fashion these days, and yet it's the only thing that I know will make me feel better. I never...

    Imaginary wardrobe

How would you put together a femme fatale summer wardrobe? I was thinking white, but no concrete plan. Sunglasses, platforms, scarves. Pencil skirts, shirts, feminine blouses? What about the trousers? Any ideas?
