    Cleaning old gold eyeglass frames.

Windex & Microwave A jeweler friend of mine once advised me that if I didn't have access to an ultrasonic cleaner, to briefly microwave a small bowl of windex just to get it warm and let the jewelry soak in that. Now, that was for rings, but I don't think it would hurt gold eyeglasses....[huh]

    Your favourite smell

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me... I used to work down the road from the Keebler factory. I always rolled down my car window on the way to work, just in case they were baking shortbread that morning. The smell of warm shortbread on a cool autumn morning is the best.

HAT ADORNMENTS: ribbons, bows, pins, pugs, leather, etc.

Indeed I have done just that. It works quite well. The only problem I've had is the glue I used to affix the magnet to the back of the pin didn't hold too well over time. I think if you used a sufficiently strong epoxy that would withstand the changes in temperature that the seasons will...

Were hats more disposable in earlier times?

Bread It seems to me that we feel the cost of inflation in the necessities like bread. We buy bread every week. In 1950 a loaf of bread was around $0.15. In 2009 that same loaf would cost you more like $2.80; that’s an increase of 18.667%. Using the same logic, a1950 $15 hat would equate...

New Champ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310230012366&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I went home for lunch today and found that hat waiting on my doorstep. It's the first Champ I've owned and the felt is comprable to my late 50s Stetson. The lining and sweat band make the hat...

    Allen Edmond wingtips size 7

I went home for lunch today and found these waiting on my doorstep (along with an ebay won Champ fedora!) and they are wonderful. Just my size, and both are very comfortable. I've got the black pair on right now; they are Bostonian Footsaver wingtips. They've got a new set of half-soles on...

    To the bald

Embrace the Pate I started shavin' my head about 8 years ago. Bein' bald was destined for me, as every male (except one) on both side of my family was bald. I fought it for a looooooong time. Growin' up in the 70/80s, you had a LOT invested in your hair. Finally my Dad said, "Look, you only...

    Leather Jacket Relining Question

I've got a A-2 that needs to be relined for the second time. It's a heavy steerhide jacket and the satin lining has just shredded over the last couple of years. The pockets need to be relined as well. I've got a place in town willing to reline the jacket for under $175, and I trust them as...

    Akubra Campdraft Question

Taper I too own a Taupe Fawn Campdraft...I'm a 7 1/2 LO but ordered a 60, and it fits just fine. Wear it a lot and it'll conform to your head without a problem. Mine was pretty stiff out of the box, but as I've worn it it's gotten softer and softer and more and more comfortable. Please be...
