Some great collections here! I dont collect hats but use them and thus have ended up with a number of them through the years. I do collect ethnic artifacts and exploration oriented antiques.
I bought the "Hunter" hat you have pictured in beaver from Baron Hats a few months ago. I then hunted with it in Tanzania and it worked very well. It cost me a grand and now has a few stains on it which add some character. I highly recommend.
Initially upon reading of your quest I wanted to say "what the hell?" but upon some reflection must say I have admiration for folks that try new things even if it seems to make little sense (to me anyway). I think the problem is that the best versions of the flasks will only hold a few ounces...
I own a home in coastal Texas but have never actually lived in it but do visit when I can. I'm currently out on Wake Island (2300 miles west of Honolulu).
Some interesting thoughts on adding water to the scotch and for those that prefer that great. As one poster used the word being "overwhelmed" with the taste when drinking it straight I thought that was the point. Whats next, ice, Coca Cola, a slippery slope.
I can see now how the addition of...
Well Lando I hope this situation ends as well as it can. My only interaction with Baron and Mark was quite different. I bought one of his Hunter models in beaver and paid a grand for it. I gave them special shipping instructions and a very specific arrival time and it arrived perfectly. I really...
You could try 12 year old Glenlivet or Glenfiddich both readily available and not too exotic. I once had a friend buy me a scotch taster set with a number of the small bottles and it included tasting notes. It was very helpful and gone very quickly. Good luck!
Lived many years in San Diego which is such a beautiful place. Moved to Texas and wish I had done it sooner. If you ever get tired of the great state of California come on out folks you will be welcomed.
Hondo, a great post and I cant imagine anything much more important then returning these fellows remains to our soil. I'm out on Wake Island and we are still finding war dead.
I've been working overseas for a number of years and I think I've lived a lot of scenes in that movie. I have used the movie as a reference for people who dont have overseas experience with Asians on what can happen.
If I have no other choice I will drink JW of whatever "color" red, black or green is available but I would never order it if there were any decent single malts available.
I solo trekked the Kokoda Track in 1982. At the time there had been a lot of rain and few trekkers and the track was very overgrown. On more then one occasion I lost the track for awhile and navigated as best I could until I could find it again. I was advised by a number of expats living nearby...
I solo hiked the Kokoda track many years ago. I have done much harder and much longer treks since in Irian Jaya and orther places. Still it was damn terrible and a great start for me. When I did it I had the luxury of not being shot at and no diseases. You cant even imagine the misery the...
Stewart, my mistake and hope you have a great trip. Looks like there is a lot of good advice being submitted for you to look at and evaluate. Personally I would pay a bit more attention to people who have actually been there. Good luck!
Mike, this is an old post from 2008 and thus the fellow has long since completed his trip (if he did go). Your question though is valid and I would say it depends where you are. Jordan is a nice peaceful place and simply dressing modestly suffices. Khaki is not frowned on but it is nice to mix...
