Great job jpb. It looks as if it was done in the store. I can tell you're a diy'er.
And skyvue, I wouldn't hesitate to wear that out at all. You look good. You might have said in an earlier post, but what kind of hat band is that? I'd say that multi colored band would allow the hat to go...
Too bad it's only the family mini van! But my other car is a truck.
And Ande1964, that's a nice looking hat. I haven't seen the before pics, but the after pics look good.

No eyelets for ventilation? It was down your way that I wore my Sunbody back in March and decided that I needed eyelets. I could see wearing felt with eyelets, but couldn't imagine wearing one without. :fing28:

Well it sounds like you're getting a great hat. But I'll give you my two cents on the Fed IV, as far as its ability to go with suits. I've got a dark brown Fed IV and have worn it with just about every style. It's the hat I've received the most compliments on, by far. Whether it's with jeans...
There are lots of knowledgeable folks around here, redhawks2. They have good experience and hat wisdom. You'll appreciate it more the more you see it. And welcome to the lounge.

I know you probably weren't serious about the iron, but I do want to say that using an iron won't necessarily ruin the brim. Just make sure there is plenty of steam, don't use a setting that is too hot and the times I've used an iron, I put a little dish cloth between the iron and felt. Of...
I don't have a Panama (yet). But from what I've seen, when these guys start saying it's worth it to spend a little more to get xyz hat brand, then it's really worth it to spend the extra for the xyz brand. They're speaking from experience.

Goose, you're selfless acts of service to mankind goes over and above the call of TFL duty. May I present you with the Silver Cross of Service... lol

I wouldn't worry about it. I was in the Marines. Most of the military types probably view you as a slimy, dirtbag civilian anyway. Whether you uncover or not won't do much to change that attitude. :D

Yes, I'd agree with Tandy Leather. That's where I got my bag of eyelets (50 per bag). There were about three colors and three sizes to choose from. I've tinkered with leather work for years, so I already had the punch. I used the 1/4" size and had my wife hold the hat at the correct angle to...
Just to offer encouragement,
here are a couple of pics of my Sunbody 3" brimmed hat. I put on the eyelets myself (see posts above). These are the 1/4" eyelets and were very easy to put on. If I can do it, probably most everyone else on here can too. So don't let the lack of air flow keep...
It does look very nice. Not saying that it's the same, but that stitching on the brim looks similar to some of the modern cloth hats I see today. I don't see that sort of stitching on very many fur felt fedoras. Of course, my experience is very limited, so maybe this is normal/common...
I'm also sorry for this next comment, but my Stylemaster is much more comfortable to wear. I get way more compliments on the Fed IV, so I wear it more. Plus, I think I look better in it (Must be my resemblance to Harrison Ford lol ). But considering comfort alone, my Stylemaster and Stetsons...
