Some dry cleaners used to clean hats. I had one cleaned in the mid-'80s at a dry cleaner. It came back blocked open crown and since I had no idea about open crown hats and that they could be hand creased I was very annoyed. Glass cutter if I recall correctly; might have also tried using diamond saw to cut it, grinder and polishers to clean it up. He was a "rockhound" so had this equipment on hand for cutting and polishing rocks.- Tango Yankee
