Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Thanks - I found that out, but it seems all the chelsea styles are outsourced. I'm guessing Barney's is more fashion than quality, same for timberland although they are both marked as water proof. Looking at RM Williams now as well. At the moment Timberland's seem like the go.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Looking at a new pair of Chelsea boots soon, and would like some recommendations for which brand is better quality. Tried looking but not to sure. It seems Frye's now outsources and quality has suffered? What about Barneys? The boots I'm interested in are the Agile Jodhpur from Barneys and...

Smart casual boots with side zip recommendations

I am looking for recommendations for a smart/casual boot with a side zip that I can wear when out casually or to a club. I've been all through the 80+ pages of sticked threads and all the boots listed within, none were black with a side zip. Price limit is around $200. Waterproof is a plus.

    Goatskin

Grain and "pebbliness" are not the same thing though, are they? The pebbliness of goatskin seems to be something more or less unique to goatskin, while grain is something that all leathers have and show in different ways?

    Goatskin

That's interesting, I didn't know that about goat. I would think though if a hide is more pebbly to start with, it will always be more pebbly?

    Goatskin

I briefly had a halfbelt from AL in black goatskin, which is veg and chrome tanned. It was very stiff and would definitely need to be broken in. Very very nice leather though. I currently have a black goatskin halfbelt from JL, which is considerably more softer and does not need to be broken in...

Black goatskin half-belt by Johnson Leathers

Getting it sent back to replace the front with a single piece of leather to remove the top yoke, as it wasn't part of my order and Alan found a piece of leather big enough he can use. Truly amazed at the customer service and commitment to customer satisfaction here!

Black goatskin half-belt by Johnson Leathers

Thanks all for the feedback and compliments, Will try to add some more photos later. Yeah, you're right. After weighing with and without on scales, the difference is 3.3 pounds. I don't drive living in NYC, and don't ride although I am going to start learning later this year. I like the look...

Black goatskin half-belt by Johnson Leathers

    I don't think I'm that tall, just under 6'1.

Black goatskin half-belt by Johnson Leathers

The Bruno half-belt on film jackets in black jerky horse seemed to have different stitching on the half-belt to other Bruno half-belt's I had seen. Shipping weight was 8 pounds, so it would weigh close to that I think after adjusting for the box and excess fabric that was returned. I'd say about 7.

Black goatskin half-belt by Johnson Leathers

I'm just under 6"1. The coat doesn't feel too long at all...I think it's the perfect length for me.

Black goatskin half-belt by Johnson Leathers

So, for my second attempt at my dream jacket I went with Johnson Leathers, due to the things I had heard regarding quality and price. I was not disappointed! Alan was a pleasure to work with, making sure I had everything as I wanted. The jacket arrived yesterday and is a thing of beauty. Very...

    Hugo Boss Vermins

Thanks all for the feedback. It's good to know. Could anyone recommend a similar boot from a quality maker for about the same price range? Zappos had some similar boots from Steve Madden..how would they compare? I've been all through the work boots thread and didn't find any that look similar...

    Hugo Boss Vermins

I would like to know what people think of these boots - Hugo Boss Vermins I like them a lot as a dress boot, but my concern is that Hugo Boss isn't generally a name assoicated with quality boots, more so with fashion as I understand it. Can anyone give some input on what the quality of these...

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Hi all, Just looking for some opinions on these boots http://store-us.hugoboss.com/%27Vermins%27-|-Leather-Zip-Up-Ankle-Boots/hbna50229843,en_US,pd.html I like that they are slip on, and seem like a nice dress boot. Thoughts?

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Not sure why a thread asking for boots that meet specific criteria that have nothing to do with workboots was merged with a workboot thread, but OK.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

While a lot of the boots are beautiful, none of them seem to meet all 3 criteria. So I guess it will be the magnums for everyday wear and perhaps one of these other brands for use with a suit. Thank you all.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

I'm not so worried about leather damage, as my socks getting wet and freezing for the rest of the day. Some boots I've had the water just seems to seep in through shoelace holes, or perforated holes on the toe or..wherever.

Thanks for the link. It seems to be very hard to find a dress boot that is also waterproof, might have to drop that requirement or stick with the magnums.
