chanteuseCarey - I think the same advice holds true for you. Dress conservatively and simply. I'd suggest not wearing fur, as many people are turned off by fur. Also, no hat. Your outfits are very nice, but without the hats and fur for a job interview.
I've read a couple, but I can't remember which ones. I also read his autobiography:
Steps in Time: An Autobiography by Fred Astaire
I always find it interesting to read an autobiography and a good biography of the same person. Interesting to see the subject's take on his/her life and then...
What makes a house a ranch house? Around here (S. Florida), most single-family houses are one story. The houses in my neighborhood were built in the 70s and look a lot like houses I've seen in California.
I wouldn't call the newer houses around here ranch style.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this. It's something I've wondered about since joining this board.
I agree that dressing in vintage "fads" will seem like a costume.
How you wear an outfit (your attitude about yourself and the clothing) does make a difference.

My friends and I did the Lindy in the 50s (not very well, as I was pretty young). By the end of the 50s, and the beginning of the 60s it was supplanted by the mashed potato, the twist, etc.
So it may have begun decades before, but it was definitely being danced in the 50s. I'll bet you'd see...
I'm thinking less extreme vintage clothing. Men's and women's suits (not the zoot variety lol ), dresses, tuxedos, gowns, loungewear, outerwear, hats (of course) from the 20s on. Articles of clothing that can be day or evening wear.
I agree about regional styles seeming like a costume when...
I suspect you weren't doing your ordering in S. Florida. lol I love mojitos and you can order one anywhere around here and bartenders know what they are. My favorite mojitos are at Bahama Breeze.
Mojitos made with orange rum are pretty good too. :eusa_clap
I love looking at the pictures in the What are you wearing thread. I don't dress vintage but I love the styles (especially 20s-40s). In a lot of the pictures, the wearer and the clothes look so natural. Not costumey at all, but really sharp.
In some pictures, and I really don't mean to...
I could have sworn I posted these two pictures yesterday when this thread first started. I came back today to check on what other pictures were added and mine weren't there. Either my computer messed up or I am losing my mind. lol
These be just_me at about 12 and 18.
When I think of movies in the 70s, besides a lot of the moves already mentioned, I also think of these: :D
Bless the Beasts & Children
The Harrad Experiment
The Strawberry Statement
Butterflies are Free
Harold and Maude
Billy Jack
Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me
Exactly right. The first half of the 70s was really an extension of the late 60s. To me the 60s were two distinctively different eras within one decade. The same with the 70s.
It was interesting, but many years ago a bunch of people I worked with threw a 60s party. Only people old enough...
Belegnole - I was amazed at our similar taste in films. I was reading down your list and saying, "yup, yup, yup..." and then I came to a screeching halt when you listed the movie I consider the worst movie ever made. I hated it, hated it, hated it and I can't remember ever saying that about...
