You can still pick some up cheap(ish)! I missed one for $30-odd the other week. I guess it depends on who is looking and when. I didn't see this expensive one, so I'm not guilty on that. I wouldn't even pay that and I'm a fairly rabid collector. The most I ever paid was $88 for my 40s one. And...
Aha! This is Batiste: http://www.batistedryshampoo.co.uk/ - I'm pleased to see they do a brown one now - I've used it before and it works vey well, although the powder didn't disappear as much as it might. I'llhave to try it again.
Ha! Actually his 'tache is usually a bit more waxed up at the ends, so it's more of a Japp/Poirot hybrid. Or it is at the beginning of the day - by the end it's definitely more Japp. lol
I have the same capelet - looks lovely on you!
I've never been to Miss Betty, but I know plenty who have. She can work miracles on hair of any length! A friend with a bob about your length had a lovely updo with mini rolls and curls done by her. I'd say just ask her for suggestions - she...
I can't see anything to laugh at in that picture! You look great, I personally don't even think the shades suggested could suit you more than the ones you have already tried. Honestly I was imagining you caked in makeup with thick kohl and scarlet lips - that is a million miles away from my idea...
My favourite afternoon tea in London is The Lanesborough, it's absolutely perfect. It's also the only place I've been to twice! However I've also had afternoon tea at Brown's Hotel, F&M and Claridge's, all top-notch and recommended without hesitation.
I smashed a beautiful teacup from pre-war Germany the other day - it had obviously made it over here in the last 70 years, been treasured and kept safe, then old butterfingers here gets hold of it... muppet.
The irony is that I was pulling out my most unremarkable and non-rare teacups to give...
Bumping this thread to show off my bargain eBay score - this 1930s cocktail cabinet bought from the local department store Bentalls and in the same family ever since! It's less than half a mile from me waiting to be picked up as soon as I can enlist my friend with a van!
The sides...
I love those! After perusing the Everyday Women thread, I was on the hunt for some flat, strappy sandals to wear in the summer. I found these, and although they could hardly be described as repro, they (the uppers at least - many have the same leather strappy construction but a heel or wedge)...
Perhaps it's more common in England, but growing up we always sat around the dinner table, in the dining room, every evening. Never, ever in front of the TV. Though it was the reverse of dressing for dinner - my mum would change into old jeans and top to do the dinner, to avoid better stuff...
As mentioned above, I've banged on a bit in various columns etc, about how, despite loving an authentic look, I do wear my cotton house dresses everywhere in the summer - round the house, out to the local shops, up to London, for afternoon tea or out for an all day event... even women who only...
:offtopic: I've never had a dryer either, although I'm not an atavist. The problem with line drying though, is that we have about 4 days a year when it's nice enough outside! Cue lots of drying clothes inside the house, making my walls all mouldy! lol
Milkcow is very 50s/rockabilly orientated at the moment, although they're trying to push it more in a 40s direction. We shall see! There is also Peek Magazine, which is aimed at men and women, but features a lot of ladies in stockings! lol
