I do believe that the foam was part of the comfit "system". The foam was supposed to conform to your head along with the corrugated sweatband. But as you've found out the material doesnt usually stand the test of time so well, so I do believe alot of them were taken out by the original owners...- ofcoursemyhorse

I've had this hat for quite a while and havent worn it out yet, because of how dingy the brim binding/ ribbon were. Not too mention I always thought the cream on white was a little boring. So I nixed the old brim binding and ribbon and hand curled the brim.- ofcoursemyhorse

Side By Side/ Hat Comparisons
It's a really unique sweatband, it does have somewhat of a suede finish. Its paper thin and easily the softest sweatband on any of my hats. Its also suffered zero issues over the years. Both the sweatband and the stitches attaching to the hat feel sturdy enough to have been installed yesterday.- ofcoursemyhorse
