Beavers and nutria are both rodents. Mink, otters and other weasel-shaped animals are not rodents.

HAT ADORNMENTS: ribbons, bows, pins, pugs, leather, etc.

It's beautiful. Look at those tiny feathers. Figure 1.5 hand stitches for each feather. It would be just as expensive if it were new. I'd want some documentation to verify the age. If it were not continuously kept in museum condidtions, it would be completely rotten by now.

That makes Cheech look affluent (not a good look) except that it's a rented pony.

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Thank you. I'm going to try making a functional, removable brush for my hat. Every day when I feed the chickens it gets peppered with stuff falling from the vegetation.

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Is the "brush" used to brush debris off the felt.? It looks removable. Or, it is purely ornamental at this point in history.

    Brim up or brim down

Wearing brim up is sort of like tilting the hat back on your head a bit. It is the polite thing to do when, for example, ordering lunch from the waitress at the diner. It opens up your face and makes you seem more welcoming and approachable. Brim or tilt down hides your face and makes you...

It's illegal to take the feather of any wild bird covered under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.of 1918 unless it was havested through regulated hunting. Wool Felt and Fur Felt in the Rain

If a hat gets soaked, I either wear it until it dries or put it on a block to dry. Otherwise it will be too small the next time I want to wear it. Felted, or woven, they all shrink.

What is going on with this site???

It is probably the hosting service trying to squeeze the site owner to upgrade to a more expensive plan with more band width. The mderators may have no idea about what's going on unless the site owner told them.

How Do you Measure A Hat?

When you add the inside length and the inside width, then divide by two, you get the average inside diameter. The average inside diameter in inches is the same as the hat size. 1 inch = 2.54 cemtimeters. If the inside dimentsions were 8 inches long and 6 inches wide, thats: 8 in. x 2.54 =...

    Panama hat questions?

Option One: Mist it with something that will leave an organic residue as it dries. Many things will work, like milk, your sweat, WD-40, etc. Then, use a hot air gun to gently oxidize the stuff without scorching the straw. Option Two: Wear it often while doing hard work and living an honest...

Ask a question, get an answer

You could also heat it to 135 F fifteen minutes or spray it with a 0.5% Permethrin soution. I make hat bands with fancy poultry feathers and always heat-treat them for mites and lice before use. The same procedures will kill human head lice. But, without a host the human head lice will die of...

    Movie hats

My grandfather died in 1955. Until the end, he would wear his second-best fedora and a tie to go surf fishing or hunting on the traditional gentleman's Wednesday afternoon outing. That's how a businessman was supposed to behave.

    Lets talk about hat shrinkage

The thing about those conforming tape measures is that the actual tape measure part is embedded almost 0.3 centimeters from the outer primeter. Then, you have to figure out what to do with the overlap. When you narrow the diameter by 0.3 cm you decrease the circumference by about 1 cm. I use...

    Panama hat questions?

Walk in the rain and then let the hat dry on your head. Heads put out a lot of heat so it doesn't take long.
