Well guys I finally got a brown Dobbs Stagecoach. Yes, a Dobbs Stagecoach. Didn't know they existed, but the crown is about 7 inches so I like it. However, I do have two questions. Number one is what do ya'll recommend I clean it with? Kinda smells like a dog. Number two is what size ribbon do...
I just recieved a couple of yards of 40's era black Petersham grosgrain ribbon I found on Etsy and I was wondering if this is the proper ribbon to use on a hat(conversion, repair, etc.)
It's nice to handle quality ribbon for once. This stuff blows away that modern shiny poly stuff.
I have every intent on wearing the hat. I guess I was just asking if it they are an especially valuable or collectible. I'm thinking of converting it to a Open Road clone (minus the ribbon edge).
I have my eye on a beautiful Stetson No.1 Quality cattleman's crease and I was wondering if you guys would convert a No.1 quality hat or if it's too good of a hat to touch? Would you guys cut it or leave it alone?
Here we go guys! Other than the ribbon, the conversion went relatively smoothly. Since I have yet to get a 7 5/8 flange,I had to hand work the brim and considering the way the hat looked in the ad(fairly flat looking front and back brim)I just did some mild curve on the fore and aft part of the...
Well guys,I didn't win the black Stetson I had my eye on. However,I did find a nice Silverbelly instead. Here's my new project hat and here's a picture of what I hope it turns out to be. Sorry Joao,it's gonna be a 2 1/4 brim.
The auction photos are not very clear as to the curve of the flange. When it arrives in the mail I'll take some better pics. I mainly wanted a flange to copy and make one of my own. I'll keep ya'll informed and by the way I also have a hat on the way for a conversion. I'm thinking of a 20's...
This is for the advanced hat makers/converters out their. Is the 207 hat flange good for pre 40's style hats(fedoras and the like). Of course, anyone is free to answer. I just thought it might have been a more advanced question.
The best I could get in my size(7 5/8) was a 51. I of course would like to have a 6"+ 52 but I have a better chance of becoming PM of England than finding one. Actually, my 51 was rather beat up when I got it, so I had to do some gluing and sanding, therefore it's more of an almost straight...
Well guys, after reblocking it 3 times(it would help if I had the right block)and almost tearing a hole in the crown,I've decided I'm finished with this conversion(maybe). The crown was about 6 1/4 open and the brim was wider on the sides than the front. After cutting the brim,it ended up as 2...
Well, I certainly understand the question and I would tell you if you're shooting for the high crown/Cagney in The Public Enemy look I would start at 2 3/8 and see if it works with your face and head shape etc. Then if you still want to go smaller, go in small increments, but I wouldn't advise...
I got my new hat for my next conversion today. I had my doubts if it would turn out the way I hoped but so far it is working out dandy. Don't let the ungodly ugliness of it and the thick brim fool you this is a good hat. Here's a pic.By the way,the trimmer worked out great.
