The Sombrero.

Just finished a custom ribbon and bow for it, and the first bash.

G’day gents I figured I should contribute to the thread that helped me buy not just one but three sombreros. It’s a real versatile hat and perfect for all weather. Wore one of mine on a trip to Florida in June and it’s handled the humidity the same way a straw would’ve. Of course I tend not to sweat too much in my head, anyways here’s some photos I took this morning. Will be happy to update with more photos of the other ones soon.

Perfect! I've worn mine in the summer as well, between the eyelets, the lightweight felt, the huge high crown and the shade it throws it really is surprisingly cool to wear.

Wow, is it just lighting or is that actually a grey tone? Looks great. I like the ribbon too.

I've actually been weighing up a Sombrero against a Territory (if I can find one in a grey or black). Hadn't realised until I looked into the Hatsdirect site that the Sombrero has a brim almost an inch wider (I guess that's including the curl?).

It’s a strange thing isn’t it!? The color changes on the lighting all the time. It goes from a nice deep brown to looking like a dark chocolate color and to looking like a greyish brown. The band was done myself with a sewing machine and a cotton rayon blended grosgrain. If you look at some 1930s western hats I decided to copy the type of ribbon I saw on there. The territory as far as I know is a 4 inch brim and the sombrero has a variation brim. When flattened all of my sombreros were uneven and roughly cut,(most likely because it wasn’t intended for you to undo the factory curl) some ranged from 4 7/8 at the sides and 4 5/8 in the front and some 4 3/4 in the front and 4 5/8 on the sides. Truly it’s kind of a guessing game, but I have always been able to net a still very solid 4 1/2 inch brim all over. If you’re going to buy one, the best price I’ve found online is from my friends at The Hattery Katoomba, Australia. Tell them Danny sent ya!

Also included photos of the factory curl and no bash.

I'm a big fan of the Hattery! I've ordered quite a few hats from them over the years. Would love to visit one day. A friend has been there, funnily enough when he posted on the socials that he was in that area and looking a hat I pointed him in their direction, and he came away with a Sombrero he wears open crown. It's a real statement hat.

Oh absolutely, terrific people whom I’d love to see in person. And yes the sombrero open crown is a insanely noticeable piece, I wore it once open to the movie theaters and received the most compliments of any hat, now I’m not certain they were sincere but hey, certainly makes you look like a sore thumb, who likes to have fun.

Ha, yes, I'm familiar with that. A lot of people want to offer compliments when you stick out and have a strong look. I always say a polite thank-you even if I suspect they're taking the mickey (which, if they are, will wind them up no end. ;-) ).
