Why would this happen? Resistol stamped over a store label. I can’t imagine a situation in which that would be the order of operations.

Thank you Scott. I have another No. 1Q (Lot 7616) of that era with the same kind of reed. Cream color & somewhat rigid now, no covering & with a cris cross pattern stamped into the reed. I’ve wondered if these reeds have aged hardened to become rigid?

The keyhole tag is a little confounding, but I very seriously doubt that's a 40's hat. For one thing, it's got a plastic liner tip. That should be pretty definitive that it's 50's at the earliest.
I believe my Junior Cowboy is mid-late 40's, the ad copy I have is earlier, but the quality of the leather makes me think it's later in the decade when comparing to the 30's Nutria I have. Anyway, same deal, 2" sweatband, light colored reed. No plastic liner tip.
