Champ Featherweight today. Hot and muggy so perfect time for a lightweight hat.

Today, a bit of rain appears on my Penney's Towncraft 3X Quality ( made under contract likely by Resistol but could even be Stevens or Langenburg, as Lee the previous maker had closed by the mid 60's before this hat was made, hence the name change from Marathon hats to their already established clothing line...Towncraft).....I really like the "Kettle Finish" brim on this one that gives it a nice upturn on the edge of the brim.

I date mine into the early 1970’s & pretty sure it is a Langenburg.

The morning 55'f temps found me wearing a Dobbs inky blue fedora during my dog soirée. I ran to the hardware store and switched to a Stetson Stratoliner (grey felt).

Today I had obligations that required me to "fit in" so a black hat was called for. This '78 Borsalino was the choice for today and the underwelt brim and wider hatband gave me a distinction that would only be noticed if you were looking.

Great BBH, Jeff! The proportions work really well for you.

I keep forgetting to mention (as a public service to all who have yet to encounter this phenomenon) my experience with a “fatigue tear” on my first Fedora.
The practice seen in every film noir movie, where a Fedora is held by pinching the top front comes from the days when there was a hat shop in every town. Replacing your hat was easy. Not so much today.
The repetitive (gentle) pinching of felt in the same place will, like paper or straw, cause the material to break down and fatigue until one day a “tear” appears on top of the hat.

Don’t let this happen to you!!
