Dobbs Lord’s hat with a pretty cool “Improved Cavanagh Edge” imprint on the sweatband.

From what I’ve found, Dobbs used this designation in the early to mid-1930s, changed to “Improved Felted Welt Edge” by the late 1930s and then introduced “Guild Edge” in 1944. That makes my best guess approximately 1934–1937.

Please correct me if you see something I'm missing. :) This hat looks incredibly clean to be that old, particularly the liner, and the researcher, unfortunately, is not un-biased. Results are inherently suspect lol.

It fits a little too snug; to be expected from a vintage 7 3/8. I've got it sitting gently on a hat stretcher but I would compress my skull before I would damage this hat.

I just can’t limit myself to 7 1/2 in vintage. I would love to see data showing how availability declines with each increase in size. I bet it describes a predictable mathematical curve.

Its summertime, its hot, and I sweat.... In my world a summer hat by defination is one that comfy and that you dont worry about. This little Stetson Forientine Milan came in today. to my mind its a bit heavier than my Hemps. love the Coniac color. Fits great but has a case of the wonkies on the brim. Its already been steamed and ironed on the brim flange. should be ready for tomorrows sun.

As a bonus the seller threw in a second free hat... not too sure about this one though lol. It does fit however. Cheaper E bay hats are always an adventure

Got a little steam on the brim. Not sure how well this Milas weave holds shapbe compared to Hemp, but it already looks better

Nice score! The sweatband looks to be in great shape and probably will stretch back to size.

Just picked up this Disney Double Eagle, at a local resale shop. From my research looks like it was made in the ‘50’s. Pretty sure this is Dobb’s Guild Edge, their answer to the Cavanagh Edge…. I really like how the hat is grey, but underneath the brim it is black, as is the little folded over edge. Also found the sweatband interesting, as it tucks into itself instead of being stitched together. If anyone has better info by all means please correct me.

This is Disney's equivalent of the Cav edge, yes. The sweatband is an intentional original design element to allow some flexibility in fitting and resizing. Cool hat. I hadn't seen that sweatband detail before.

Dr. Max Dobbs Bowler - In the eBay ad it said "7 1/4 - fits like a 7 3/8" and I was very curious why this would be possible in a hard hat. It does fit like a tight 7 3/8. Still don't have any idea why or how. A couple weeks ago I had zero hats with the frayed bow edge. Now I have three or four, I think, depending on how you count. I like that treatment. This is a new development. Discovering how my preferences change over time is part of the fun for me. :)

He definitely had someone who could make the impossible, possible when it came to resizing hats.

Nice! I love the colors in the felt. There's red in it right?
Marcel, Sorry I missed your reply. Yes, it has some Red fibers. This is the first "Handspun" Echter Mayser I have encountered . I remembered that I had a late 1930s early 1940s NOS Janyška with a similar Mélange Rauh Finish Felt. It's a size 55 CM so I sold it to Eric in back in 2015 and I believe he still has it. I have to say this is a unique + fantastic Little Soft Felt Hat.

very cool - I love that the resizer ribbon detail goes all the way around the sweatband. I may see if I can get someone to make me one like that. :)
