Echter Mayser "Homespun", 58 cm, made for the Swedish Market, possibly early 1960s. This is the first "Homespun" I have encountered and the Felt is a Mélange with a more extreme Rauh Finish. This is a sporty Form with a shorter Brim. Always nice to find a new Mayser Model / Quality.

Echter Tamino, "Special - Marke Tamino Feinste - Qualität -", Wool, 57 cm, possibly mid to late 1930s. This Wool Soft Felt has the yet to be solved mystery "Arbeits - No: Controll - No: Lohn - No:" and "Qual. Form Farbe Garnitur" Stamps. I assume "Tamino" is based on the hero tenor in Mozart's 1791 opera The Magic Flute. Unfortunately after much searching I wasn't able to find the company that had this trademark. I like finding these older Wool Soft Felt Hats.

Two different, very beautiful hats. Both are rare to find these days.
Whenever they appear, they represent an important piece of hat-making history.
Well done, Steve.

This one showed up yesterday. And it's an intriguing one.
Brückel's velours fedora in black. Size 58 (too big for me alas) with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at a generous 12cm at the center dent. High quality velour with a great hand hat which had me stumped for various reasons. First of all it felt a bit rough when I first handled it, which sometimes happens with these older velour hats. This was different though because I found out it has the nap flowing clockwise. I think I have one other hat with that feature, a hat by Vezzani. Can't place the AF on the size label.
The other thing that has me wondering is wether this was meant to be a rip off of Hückel or if that it's just a coincidence. I'm thinking it's its own thing. Unfortunately there's no label under the sweatband to help us along.

Stefan, Super + interesting find. The Velour does look of great quality. I can't remember if I have a Velour with a clockwise Nap. I have no idea on the origin either but I will do some checking regarding "AF". "Brückel´s Velour" does appear to be a play on "Hückel´s Velours". It's interesting that the liner spelling doesn't have a "ü". Was this find from France? The external size tag is somewhat common with French market Austrian Velours.

Thanks, Steve. The possible French origin has crossed my mind as well. There is another size tag under the sweatband I'm sure I've seen before. Have to look on what hat. Brückel does exist as a surname and Brückel's will likely lead you to a woodoven bakery in Germany :)

Stefan, Thank you for the reply and additional info.

It reminds me of this Brüder Böhm that has no internal Brüder Böhm label and came from a French seller. It has similar (French Point + CM) external and internal size tags. There are other examples (mostly Hückel I believe) with these added French Point + CM external and internal Size Tags that came from French sources.

Here is a "Hückel´s Velour" without an s that was used up to WWI (not sure if there are later examples). I am know this term it was used in France. It's just seems interesting that the names are so similar.

I am having a stronger feeling that it could have come out of France and is possibly Austrian Velour.

L. F. Rousselet (established 1821),"Rousselet Hüte Display Wall Mirror". The content is possible later 1800s but I am not sure when the mirror was made. The Frame dimensions are Width 45 cm X Height 65 cm and the Mirror dimensions are Width 40 cm X Height 60 cm. L. F. Rousselet was located in Friedrichsdorf, Germany which is nearby Bad Homburg. L. F. Rousselet was sold in 1934 and became Resolut Homburger Hutfabrik. This Display Wall Mirror is a recent arrival and it's now hanging on one of my walls.

Thanks, Steve. So it's likely an imported velours felt, like we have seen before. All the quality is there and the rest will likely remain a mystery.

Very cool find, Steve. Rousselet as a brand name continued to be used and now and again a later hat with the brand pops up. Don't know if Resolut held the rights to the name.

Here's another nice piece of advertising (on Ebay now).

Stefan, I don't know if Resolut used the L. F. Rousselet trademark. I have some detailed historical info on L. F. Rousselet somewhere. Here is some info regarding L.F. Rousselet and Resolut.

Hat Factory "Resolut".

The mill was rebuilt in 1710 by Michael Schell head and continued in 1755 by his son Henrich until 1784. About the in-laws nephew Carl Ludwig man from Green City in 1794, she came to Johann Philipp Neeb, the widow of the CL Married man. Died 1803 J. P. Neeb. Subsequent owner, Gerhard Becker, who died in 1840. Other intermediate owner is still unknown. Until 1875 there Walkwerk for the hat factory hoods LF Rousselet, In 1875 Rousselet from Friedrichsdorf established a walkmill with a walker for hat stumps. From 1934 hat factory Resolut, then owned by Walter See.". The ancestors of the family Rousselet had emigrated as a Huguenot refugees to Friedrichsdorf and Köppern. The "Resolut Hutfabrik" consisted of 1875 in Köppern near Bad Homburg v.d. Height. The walk mill for the felt was operated by a gentleman of Huguenois descent Rousselet. Therefore perhaps the company name "Resolut", as wordplay on "Rousselet".

The building "to Köpperner Valley 106" was born from the former fulling mill Rousselet

Anton Pichler Graz "Super", 56 cm / measure 57 cm, possibly late 1950s. The felt + finish, components and workmanship are all of high quality. The larger amount of Brim flange gives it an older look / form. It appears to be sample because I couldn't find any record of a Vechet Hüt Wien and the listed addresses + location make no sense.

Nice find, Steve: I especially love that brim curl that causes this 20s/30s vibe.

I did some research on "Vechet Hüte Wien" and found it:
"Vechet, Jos., XVII., Hern. Hauptstrasse 9"
https://www.findbuch.at/files/conte...oe_ab/132__Wien_Industriebedarf-Juweliere.pdf

"Jos." means Joseph or Josef and the addresses are:
- IX. Währingerstr. 18 = Währinger Straße 18 in Vienna's 9th district (Roman numeral) = "House of the Emperor of Austria"
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haus_Zum_Kaiser_von_Österreich
- XVII. Hern. Hauptstrasse 9 = Hernalser Hauptstrasse 9 in Vienna's 17.th district (Hernals)
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hernalser_Hauptstraße
- St. Peter in der Au N.Ö. = small town in Lower Austria (NiederÖsterreich)
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Peter_in_der_Au
So, there are three branches: two in Vienna with specific addresses, and one in St. Peter listed without a street name or house number. However, the 1938 address book lists only the single shop in Hernals.
Perhaps this information will help you uncover even more in your incredible collection.

Best – Matt

Matt, Thanks! I was searching for 1950s information because of the hat. I also found the Hernalser Hauptstrasse 9. location for Josef Vechet in my copy of 1926 Austrian Hat Guide. (center of Page 25)

15914990206_fa44dcc126_b.jpg

Josef Vechet is also listed as member of the Vienna Hat Makers Cooperative, Journeyman's Examination Committee on the Employer's side. (top of Page 12)

15753365848_c1b5f14ecb_b.jpg

I found the IX. Währinger Straße 18. and XVII. Hernalser Hauptstraße 9. in the Adolph Lehmann's allgemeiner Wohnungs-Anzeiger 1939.

55513465283_d381923c85_c.jpg

I am assuming the Hernalser Hauptstraße 9 location changed to Hauptstraße 11 (next door). The post WWII online info is restricted and there is nothing I could find online for post WWII. I am going to make contact with St. Peter in der Au N.Ö to see if they have a record of a Vechet Hüte. There wasn't anything listed in the 1926 Austrian Hat Guide for that location.
