The other one was mine but had white stripes down the sleeves. I sold it on Vinted but yodel delivered the wrong package and I can only assume someone who was expecting a router ended up with it… we were both compensated but I’m sad it didn’t find its new owner.
I wonder what some random bloke / gal is doing with the jacket. Why did you sell, it was such a cool jacket?

I think my Vanson Oxford is still my best fitting jacket. It's definitely the most comfortable. Aesthetically, I go back and forth on whether the giant hardware looks good though

That's just cool!

There's a lot going on with this jacket, but especially if you were riding a cruiser bike, it would be very appropriate and would draw attention, in a good way, to your existence on the road. And 1994 is old-school, really nice Comp-Weight. I suspect this jacket weighs quite a lot as well.
Thank you! Indeed it is quite heavy, a bit of a beast!

I'm still deciding whether or not I can wear it enough and I would need to use some binder clips or attach snaps to keep the lapels in place in front since they don't have snaps. But am still mulling it over.

It's from eBay and is returnable, so I just have a few weeks to decide. But I also posted it here in the classifieds for what I paid for it to give someone here a direct line on it rather than have to return to auction.

Looks good.. Where did you get it? Im trying to find one with a two way zip..

and does it squeak?
I got it from the custom process through Thurston Bros - I believe the double zipper was a default choice for this style (Oxford 9d?)

The leather is Bainbridge (maple?). It doesn't and has never squeaked. It was very shiny at first, couch like, if you will. I like where it is now though.

If you want lapel snaps, just talk with Vanson (repairs) and send it to them, they will install them for you. Their work does not cost very much and they seem to have a quick turnaround time, so you could get it back before jacket season begins.

Thanks for the info! Very good to know it won't take too much time or $. I asked them in my e-mail but they did not respond (very unpredictable when and what they actually respond to lol but I understand they're a smaller operation and of course are almost always very helpful when they do get around to it).

Still a little torn on if I will wear it enough, but I do think I shouldn't let the collar thing hold me back since it should be an easy fix. Hell, even using the binder clip and towel method should do an okay enough job of fixing the way the collars sit.

I find just calling them directly yields a much better result. They are helpful & friendly to talk to and will likely have you send it in within a day or two.

Will cross post in the finds and deals thread, Vanson is having a 25% off sale on one of its Enfield iterations:

Got my comet in from Vanson (brandy roma). Im actually not too fond of this color. Anybody have examples of Vanson’s other brown colors? I got the swatches in but hard
to judge on such a small piece

Ok upon further research I've found this older eBay listing that looks to be a non-cow print version of the jacket. Still no snaps or anything but the folds here looks a bit more natural so maybe I can crease it and get it to sit like that unzipped. View attachment 801210
And some better/fit pics. Not the best fit pics but alas lol.

post a pic -- i've definitely noted a variation going through this and other threads historically. older jackets were more burgundy, and i think it would be fair to say that more recent jackets are more brown.

Exactly!!!!!!! I see no “brandy” in this hide. It’s more of a pale brown pull up. Not bad but i’m not crazy about it. Stiff too.

I also find it very difficult to judge the final appearance of a jacket based off of samples, especially a pullup leather. Unless it's a very flat pigmented leather, like a black, I've resigned myself to having to do my future brown jacket purchases in person.

How well does the sample compare to the finished jacket? I think it's reasonable to expect variation between hides in the tanning process, but if your sample is a completely different shade then that's on Vanson.

It is not quite the same. I think I will just go with their Z150 black leather.

how's it compare to the firenze midweight?
I believe it’s not as “pebbly” and has more sheen. Around the same weight.

But yea, I don’t like their browns. I may in the future buy my own brown leather to send them for another jacket I want.

also consider Thurston Bros -- you can see a few examples earlier in the thread or on their dedicated thread, but they have unique brown leathers that they use in their customs.
