I've heard that before lol. Sometimes from my own lips. That would be a no - we are out of the hat buying business around here for a minute lol
I still have a couple things to share. I just bought my wife a huge floppy Panama from Optimo AZ yesterday because it was absurdly cheap. Not gonna say if a unicorn falls in my lap I wouldn’t try to make it happen, but we shall see lol. And it would have to be a really shiny unicorn.I've heard that before lol. Sometimes from my own lips.

Nice one. Always like the sharkgill treatment! This just in. The last one I saw here that was close to it was a beautiful 4X from @Blare a couple of years back. This Stevens Silver Beaver 5X just sits perfectly on my head. A 2 5/8", hand-felted brim with a tall shark gill ribbon, it looks like a wind cord may have been attached and later cut at some point. It still needs a bit of cleaning up, but man, what a Goodwill find.

Gorgous hat!! I love his homburgs too, but I think I'll get a little more wear out of a Lords hat.
Well, I do like my hat books a lot and this sure looks like a fine book, but at the price it sells for, the shipping costs and the customs fees it crosses the line of the ridiculous. Looking forward to a review of it in the hat books thread.I know this isn't a hat, but I also got this in today. I had a really hard time pulling the trigger on this book; I just kept thinking about the hat I wouldn't be able to buy because I spent the money on this instead - ah well, such is life. I've been wanting to get my hands on this thing for a while. I also think I'm going to subscribe to @belfastboy 's magazine. Time I got a bit more education, maybe.
It came wrapped in a cardboard box the same size as the book, and the spine was crunched a little bit, and there was a little g unk on the spine also. For what they charge for this thing, they should have Gandalf drop it off riding one of those flying eagle-things. It may clean up fine when I have a minute to mess with it. edit: the sensor doesn't like g unk? Interesting.

There are several, but this is the one with the most books on it:I didn’t know there was a hat books thread. Now I have more reading to do.![]()
Max had most all of his hats (especially vintage, but some modern as well) re-sized (and some rebuilt entirely). And it went either up or down depending on the hats original state. He was impatient to find his correct size in any hat.Courtesy of @drmaxtejeda .
This is my first hat that says "One Hundred" anywhere, and also my first hat with this thin ribbon. This hat also has the thinnest brim ribbon I think I've ever seen. This is a cool hat. I love the shape of it, and the color. All in all, a very nice, wearable hat. Thank you Dr. Max. : )

Take a look at the brim break. It looks as though this hat started life at a larger size and was sized down to 7 3/8 at some point. At least to me. Is that what you guys are seeing? I am making this assumption because of the line around the brim that looks to be an earlier brim break that has been moved down onto the brim. If that is incorrect, please let me know.

4th Resistol Shantung 5 Star rode in on Friday. Needed a little shaping on brim & it was an long oval so made it more round. Brim is 3 1/2 inch rather than the 4 plus on the others. Great shape & it's a older hat. Wearing it out today. The Two Resistol Shantungs rode in today. 20X Jaxon & 10X George Strait. Both have soft leather sweat bands & outer leather bands. Think it was a useful deal.
Got them both for $100 delivered so $50 ea. They are new but one had some scuffs that I wernt over with Navaho white semi gloss. I might do a bees wax or clear show wax over it. Looks fine. See pic 5 how it was.
They both fit very well. The resistol Sz 7 straw is my size, it's cool & the big brim is for the hot sun protection. I think they work on me.
The 20X diamond Jaxon has a bend on the front. Tried steaming it. Got better & really is not that noticeable. Last photo Jaxon 20X in traction hoping to smooth out that dent.
These hats are over $200 retail. They are well made & comfy.
I always cringe when I see yourHad a couple inexpensive summer hats inbound and one showed up on the door a bit ago. Nothing dramatic but its a cute little Stetson Andover two tone ( beige crown and Sand brim) Pretty sure its just a polyester braid but it fits and looks decent. A knock around hot weather hat I dont have to worry about. Just need to glue up a loose label inside, snug up the pug, and relax a bit of wonkiness out of the brim ( prob just from shipping)
Think Ill test it out with a rum punch and good cigar this afternoon
Now if a certain little Knox straw will show up this weekend Ill be a happy camper.

UPDATE...
I plugged in the hot glue g u n so I could secure the label. got the pug snugged up ( proper hooks on both ends) ...when I picked up the hat, the label fell out and the puppy grabbed it and went scooting out the door towards the water sprinkler. A few minutes of chasing and I had it back. A bit slobbery but he only played with it and didnt do any dissassembly lol. He had no outward signs of guilt. went to iron it smooth and promptly melted the glue on the back and securely glued it to the ironing board cover lol.... First mistake all week... I swear. Guess Ill need a new ironing board cover... it was a bit dirty anyway. Oh well its now safely glued back into the hat where the dog cant get it... Adventures in hatting! Ill call it antiquing

I debated for months whether to get a sz 7 70's resistol 3 1/2 inch fedora owned by a General who worked with Werner Von Braun. Still sorry, but i asked for a short letter of provenance from the guys wife who inherited it & he blocked me.I have some fedoras with up to 3 1/2" brims, definitely not western (unless you count The Frisco Kid and his decendants!).
He looks like the goodest boy.I always cringe when I see yourdogs nose so close to a good fur felt. Lucky you don't have a parrot or it would have flown away with it.
Fortunately the puppy has never showed any inclination to taste hats or decide its a new plaything. I will admit that one floor display rack here is loaded up with "lesser" hats down low just in case.I always cringe when I see yourdogs nose so close to a good fur felt. Lucky you don't have a parrot or it would have flown away with it.
Another hat from @drmaxtejeda . Once again, thank you Dr. Max.
This hat has the characteristic sweatband alteration, but it also has a 7 3/8 size sticker and reorder label. I assume the hat had shrunk a bit over time, and Dr. Max had Ignacio put a little spacer in to get it back up to 7 3/8 to make it wearable while retaining the original sweatband. Keeping the original sweatband was the right move, of course.
This hat is a little stingy-brimmed for me, but still wearable, and I'm going to assume late 50's-early 60's on the era, like most of my vintage stuff. Let me know if you see anything that says different.
I haven't had much success as of yet sourcing hats that fit me from the 30's and 40's, but I imagine that will change over time as I downshift into a more sustainable gear and attempt to develop a little patience.
Very happy to have this hat; the goal (aside from having another cool hat to wear) being to get my hands on couple of these "One Hundred" quality-tier hats so I can decide how important that label is to me personally.
The felt is excellent, although it has a little more body than I expected. Apparently I've been incorrectly equating softer, less structured felt with higher quality.
The ribbon is in excellent shape - and I think this is the only example I have of that frayed ribbon edge detail. No idea if the ribbon is orginal.
I love the Cavanagh edge, I love the crown shape, and I love the silverbelly felt with the black ribbon. If this hat had another inch of brim, it would be just about perfect.
The name "T.W. Staley" is written inside the sweat. It appears to match Thomas Weldon Staley, a prominent Kansas City business executive who lived at 5049 Wornall Road in Kansas City, Missouri (64112).
I can't prove this was his hat, but it fits.

John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Thanks for the info.@Brad Bowers is the resident Cavanagh expert, so I'm sure he can tell you more definitively, but I'm guessing very late 60s or maybe 70s. If you did a little digging you'd probably get this info as well (my first step is often googling "how to date a X hat", in this case X being Cavanagh.

The 50s manufacturer tag has perforated edges and still includes the blocking depth and info, it loses the depth info by the 60s. Your tag has rounded edges so I'm assuming it's from after the 60s tags shown in Brad's website. You could also scroll through the Cavanagh thread and see if anyone else has posted a tag like that and what people think it might date to.
I'm sure a one hundred hat was still a decent one at that point in the game but most people here seem to be of the opinion that the quality of those later hats is not up to the quality of the earlier ones (like a late 60s Stetson Twenty Five hat may be on par with a 40s Royal). The felt manufacturers were able to get wasn't as good and they started putting lower quality sweatbands in, etc. Of course, it's all subjective and what matters most is if you like the hat and enjoy wearing it!
I have a 50s Cavanagh Fifty that I got for a steal that I'll probably keep around even though it also has a shorter brim than I'd prefer (right around 2"). It has more of a taper than I like as well so I re-bashed it to a pork pie crown, although I like the way yours looks so maybe I'll bash it back and see how I feel about it.
