When a new hat arrive it is sometimes like a little mysteries that arise.

This hat is branded Ugo Puri - Sooros(that seems the name of the hats or type); the shop was in Rome some years ago.

It's a Homburg or maybe a Lord hat with a unique feature: it's lightweight.

It's a size 59/60, and the finish, as you can see from the inside, is superb.

The felt is very thin, and with the slightest touch, it can stretch or lose its shape.

The contrast between the ribbon and the brim trim is very interesting.
Who made the hat? Ugo Puri says it was made specifically for his shop, and someone tore the paper label.

I've tried to speculate, but none of the large or even medium-sized Italian brands carry this style.
I believe, and am almost certain, that the hat was saved by Stefan, who generously exchanged it with me.

Hch. / Heinrich Klipper Offenbach a. M. "Extra Quality", Crown 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 inches, 156 grams, Wool or Wool Blend, no paper label, possibly early 1910s. This Stiff Felt has a really interesting Form and Brim work with a 1 3/4 inch Ribbon / Band. Unfortunately there was some damage to the front of the Band so I had Bob at Black Sheep Hat Works replace the Band / Bow with Mokuba (Japan) Silk ribbon that was a good match (see below for the details). I found this Stiff Felt back in 2017.

A well-known Offenbach specialty store for men's hats, Heinrich Klipper, Frankfurter Straße 5, celebrates its 100th anniversary today. The furrier and captain Heinrich Klipper .., from Mühlheim founded 1858 in the Offenbacher Schloßstrasse a fur and hats shop. Mr Klipper was a lively business man with a keen eye for the development of the men's fashion: very soon he changed his business into a special shop for men's hats and caps.

The company picked up a strong upturn, and an expansion of the business premises was necessary after a short time. Mr. Klipper moved his company more into the city center and finally opened a new shop - Frankfurter Strasse 5 - shortly before the turn of the century. In 1909 he handed over the company of his daughter Meta Klipper, the current owner. Fraulein Klipper had spent two years at the Handelsschule before the takeover of the company and then trained herself practically. Through good and hard times Fraulein Klipper led the company. Especially in the Second World War, she had to overcome many difficulties, and after the end of the war it was necessary to remove the war damage that had arisen. The owner took the opportunity to have the sales rooms modernized according to the given possibilities. Even today, it is the name of the company and is popular and popular in many old Offenbach families. Hearty congratulations to the anniversary!

Band / Bow Replacement and Shipping Damage Restoration By Black Sheep Hat Works

The ribbon was damaged so I decided to buy some Mokuba (Japan) Silk ribbon which turned out to be a good match. I contacted Bob at Black Sheep Hat Works (BSHW) and he graciously accepted to install the new ribbon / bow. Unfortunately when the Stiff Felt arrived at BSHW the box had been crushed and the Stiff Felt had major crown dents. Bob did a masterful job of fixing the dents, cleaning up the felt and installing the new ribbon / bow. The bow design matches the original so of the time period.

Bob had to remove the liner and discovered some writing on the top and sides of the liner (also on the sweatband).

This is a current observation. The "72" Light Orange Paper Label makes me think this Stiff Felt was sourced from Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik. The 22 1/2 might be in Zoll.

A later Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik, "EMS" "Gloria" Backbow with similar "187" Paper Label.

Very nice hat, Steve, and kudos to Bob for both the ribbon replacement, and the crush-damage repair. I found the 100-year write-up, and ESPECIALLY the storefront picture, absolutely fascinating. Thanks for sharing!

Mosely and I covered our 3 miles this morning with me sporting my mid-1950s Knox Premiere Westlite. For an approximately 70-year-old hat, this one is in remarkable condition.

Originally sold at one of the Rubin Brothers stores in Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach, FL. The business operated from 1927 to 1987.

Recently got this Beaver Hats Major in for a really good price. Very soft fur felt. Badly misshapen and covered in a ton of dust. A little brushing brought back the original shape, which I tweaked by hand with no steam. It has a unique mauve tone to it that I really like. 2.25" brim and 4.5" at the highest point of the crown, as it's shaped. Selfie in evening attire (on my back patio sipping on some red wine this evening).

Largely the credit goes to Tibor from Carlisle Hats in Melbourne who sourced the felt and then made the hat to specifications refined by Gemini AI with the idea as mentioned coming from a forum’s member post of shaggy hats. The felt colour is called bronze. Nice to bring another hat into the world. Now to get around to wearing them.

Today’s travelling hat. An unlined Panama for heading to Darwin next week.
