The first two pictures are my new Akubra Cattleman in sand that I wore on our school trip to Melbourne. The following two are my Stratoliner that I wore today for grocery shopping.
And here is Etsuko, Wakayama (out of Osaka)

A trio of beauties, Gary. And that hatband on Etsuko's is just --- ::chef's kiss:

I do like Wakayama prefecture, lovely part of the world.
The stratoliner also looks pretty great, ‘must resist urge to shop online’

Not a lot of people know of Wakayama. It has a pretty spectacular geological history resulting in some awesome scenery. And just a short train ride away from the night life of Osaka. If you’re ever back this way, Gary Wakayama has some pretty damn good barbecue (if I do say so myself)!

G&G bought out the hat maker that I previously made my hats, that being The Susquehana Hat Company. A phone call to G&G proved most fruitful, they had my account and as Susquehana had many a client who used their made to measure service, G&G intended to continue offering bespoke.
It might seem ostentatious but having made to measure guarantees a comfortable fit and long lasting wear. I have been spoiled all my married life by my talented wife who has made wardrobes full of clothes for me.

Yesterday's hat is pressed into service for church today. It compliments the shirt and trousers that Tina specifically made to wear with this blazer. There's a fellow at church who thought that I was telling porkies when I said that my wife made the shirt and trousers.
Tina's response to the insult was: "What do you expect from someone who dresses like they are wearing a sack!" My lady never pulls her punches.
Is the term "Porkies," leaving you scratching your head? It's Cockney rhyming slang. Porkies, Pork Pies, Lies! So now you know.
The Susquehana Hat Company do bespoke? Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs. (our American friends will be learning so many random British phrases between us) They make some very good hats for the price point, I've had several and cant grumble at the overall quality, again considering the price paid.

This morning its a once sad little 4x Resistol that someone had cut the brim down from 4" to 2-1/2" ... looked just strange with a 7" crown. I stripped it down, re-blocked, took the crown body down a bit and worked the brim back out to 3". original liner and sweat sewn back in. Crown still fairly tall but its pretty livable now. The untrained should not be allowed to buy a brim cutting tool lol

The original stitch line from the sweatband is now about 1/2" out on the brim.... Happily a couple hours playing with a finger massager and wet felt... ALL the holes closed up fully. little bit of pouncing and the work dissappeared nicely... Ill call this one a success. In hindsight I kinda wish I had shortened the crown and worked the brim out just a bit more... but it qualifies as a save. We all can find nice older hats.... I enjoy rescuing the mutts

Another weekful of beauties, Stefan. I'm voting for the Barbisio as #1, the Laubin as #2, and the T&W Lees as #3. Beauties all!!! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Stefan, knowing the hours that Tina puts in to make something special for me does make me proud when, inevitably, I get asked: where I "bought" it.

Thank you Mark and Robert. Much appreciated.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Jota" "Seal Velour", possibly late 1930s. The Velour is fantastic (color, finish, hand) and very pliable. This Velour was one of a nine hat find that I made back in 2021.

J. Hückel´s Söhne Promotional Pocket Mirror, possibly mid to late 1930s. I found this Pocket Mirror back in 2022.

I don’t get down there that often as I live and work in Kanto/Tohoku but I spent eight months there a few years ago. I spent a lot of time mooching around the coast or up to Koyasan, and spectacular is the right word.

A happy Purim to any who celebrate. I am here in Israel on this holiday wearing a Bukharian kippah, a traditional, often hand-embroidered, full-head-covering yarmulke featuring vibrant, intricate patterns, originating from the Bukharan Jewish community of Central Asia (mostly Uzbekistan).

The variety of hats here is limited (unless you like black, then there are lots). I think I have found a way to rectify that with the availability of some nice European hats that can be sent here relatively inexpensively. A few are on their way.
