Question about Preserving & Storing Pendleton Flannels

I have a collection of vintage Pendleton 100% Virgin wool western and board shirts from the 1970s. I also have a vintage Pendleton Outdoorsmen jacket, it is basically a Mackinaw Cruiser. And I was wondering if you should hang or fold these garments. I want them to last as long as possible since they are family heirlooms. For the longest time I thought you hung them but I heard recently since they are made of wool you should fold them, the same way you would fold a wool sweater. I reached out to Pendleton but no reply yet.

I’m curious to hear what the experts on vintage clothes on this forum think.

I could only add that keeping them in a cedar lined closet or drawer *may* be helpful for keeping the moth issue at bay. I only have one wool coat & 1 wool shirt these days, so I am not very knowledgeable here.

I have a CPO from Mr. Freedom, I will ask them too, because I am sure they will get back to me before Pendleton… no shade.

The Wool shirts I fold them like dress shirts and keep them in lock plastic bags. For my other thicker wool jackets, I fold them like a sweater and also put them into a lock plastic bag. Of course, I remove the air and then lock them.
See I hang my dress shirts, but I am starting wonder as I consolidate my wardrobe and I have more space… if I have been organizing things wrong along. Should I really only be hanging my jackets?

As AeroFan_07 stated, the moths can do a number on them. They got several of my expensive jackets (New RMC NZ, two of them, and A-1 LW and several others.) That is why I use lock seal bags and trash bags for a thick leather jacket with woolen parts.
Those flying guys are a BIG problem for me. They come from my herb garden and fly in when they are least expected. LOL. It is a little comical, but the damage they create is not funny.

Good points. Will hanging stretch them out, also is it safe to fold old 100% virgin wool, or will it crease it and ruin it?

Will folding damage the wool flannels by creasing them or not? Will hanging them stretch them out and ruin the shoulders long term because they are made of wool, or is this different than sweaters?
